Traci Janet Hughes and David Christopher Quy were united in marriage on Saturday, December 29, 2001, at seven o'clock in the evening at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. The candlelight double-ring ceremony was officiated by Reverend Wick Stuckey. The scripture reading was given by Shay Gilmore. Music for the ceremony was provided by the Chapelwood Handbells Choir, organist Tom Jaber, trumpeter Eric Bettner, and soloists Sara Welch and Brandon Stanley. A reception hosted by the bride's parents followed at The Houstonian with music by the Festive Trio and Taboo of Austin, Texas. Ms. Martha Gilmore, family friend of the bride, hosted a bridesmaid's luncheon the day before the wedding at the Rainbow Lodge. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Las Alamedas.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hughes of Katy, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Gwendolyn Hughes of Elkton, Virginia, and the late Rembert Hughes and Mrs. Joyce Wilson of Woodbridge, Virginia, and the late Eddie Wilson. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Quy of Austin, Texas. He is the grandson of Lucia Pickett of Stanton, Texas and the late Roy Pickett and the late Newell and Nina Mae Quy.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride chose an elegant gown designed by Lazaro of New York. The sculpted bodice featured jeweled spaghetti straps and a dropped waist. Intricate beaded embroidery in soft silver covered the bodice which was trimmed at the neck and hip with small jewels. A full tulle skirt fell from the dropped waistline and swept into a chapel length train. Rhinestones sparkled in the layers of tulle. The bride's ensemble was complete with the addition of a hand-crafted tiara of silver, pearls, and Swarovski crystals.
Ms. Shelley Williamson of Austin, Texas, was the Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Cele Joplin of Lubbock, Texas, Miss Kelly Quy of Houston, Texas, Miss Kimberly Ellison of Washington, D.C., Miss Lindsay Sowa of Chicago, Illinois, Miss Alison Ledbetter of Houston, Texas, and Miss Ruth Ramsey of Houston, Texas. The house party included Miss Darcy Douglas of Arlington, Virginia, Miss Brittany Johnson of San Francisco, California, Miss Leeann Rountree of New York, New York, Miss Allison Roberts of Anderson, South Carolina, Miss Emily Hampson of Dallas, Texas, Miss Arin Dorris of Austin, Texas, and Miss Allison Barnett of Austin, Texas. Miss Maggie Quy served as the Flower Girl.
Mr. Ben Siddons of Austin, Texas served as the Best Man. Groomsmen were Mr. Spence Sowa, of Dallas, Texas, Mr. Reed Galen of Washington, D.C., Mr. John Mackovic of Tucson, Arizona, Mr. Steven Quy of Keller, Texas, Mr. Chris Keel of Austin, Texas, and Mr. Brian Erlanson of Dallas, Texas. Ushers were Messrs. Noel Hutcheson, Chris Ivy, Jeff Axley and Scott Ellis, all of Dallas, Texas. Masters Nicholas and Gregory Wilson, identical twin cousins of the bride, served as Ring Bearers.
The bride is a graduate of Taylor High School in Katy, Texas. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Education from The University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
The groom is a graduate of Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the Silver Spurs. He is currently a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.
A May honeymoon to Europe is planned.
