Miss Elizabeth Helen Lawhon and Mr. Robert Johnson Batton were united in marriage on Saturday, January 5, 2002 at seven o'clock in the evening at First Presbyterian Church. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend Leo Schuster III and Dr. James Elder, Jr, with music by organist, Joby Bell; soloist, Nancy Curtis; trumpeter, George Chase and the Fine Arts String Quartet. A reception was held following the ceremony at the Houston Country Club with music by Grady Gaines. On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at the Junior League of Houston.
Elizabeth is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas James Lawhon of Houston. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Thomas Lawhon and the late Mr. Lawhon and the late Mr. and Mrs. David Walker Light, Jr., all of Houston. John is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Dennis Batton of Fort Worth. He is the grandson of Mrs. Ruth Odom and the late Walter Leon Batton of Hubbard and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chester Burton of Penelope.
Miss Courtney Light Lawhon of Houston served her sister as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Kathryn George Murray and Mrs. Margaret Greer Sanders, both of Houston; Miss Elizabeth Terry Guice of Austin; Mrs. Katherine Burns Diehl, Mrs. Mary Batton Kendall, sister of the groom, Mrs. Molly Noble Kidd, and Mrs. Mary Katherine Black Pattison, all of Dallas; Mrs. Laura Griffith Orloff of Denver; Mrs. Leslie Lawhon Biggs, cousin of the bride, of Mountain View, California; and Miss Laurie Ann Zapalac of San Antonio.
Dr. Robert Dennis Batton of Fort Worth served his son as Best Man. Groomsmen were Mr. Timothy Lain Cornelson of Houston; Mr. Allen Tunstill Cowden and Mr. Jay Coley Cowden, both of Austin; Mr. Samuel Juliao III of Bastrop; Mr. Millard Lucien Tierce IV of Bryan; Mr. Todd Jayton Kendall, brother-in-law of the groom, Mr. Scott Andrew Snedaker, and Mr. Robert Nicholas Turner, all of Dallas; Mr. David Hunter Hall of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and Dr. Philip Duncan Floyd of Miami.

Elizabeth is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Houston and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Commerce and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Latin American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and will graduate in May, 2002.
John is a graduate of Fort Worth Country Day School and the University of Texas at Austin where he received Bachelors degrees in Business Administration and Spanish Linguistics and was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Business Administration at the University of Texas at Austin and will graduate in May, 2002.
Following a honeymoon trip to St. Lucia, the couple will reside in Austin until their May, 2002 graduation.
