Miss Melissa Ann O'Neal and Mr. William Stanley Moss III were united in marriage on Saturday, November 17, 2001, at seven o'clock in the evening at Christ Church Cathedral in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Edward L. Stein. Robert Simpson, organist and choirmaster of the Cathedral, provided music for the ceremony along with trumpeter Oscar Garcia. The scripture readings were given by Joan Carlin Schwartz and Michael Shane Kimzey. A reception followed at the Petroleum Club with music provided by Grady Gaines and The Texas Upsetters. The day before the wedding, a bridal luncheon was hosted by Debra Dow Mangini at the Junior League of Houston. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Brennan's.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Eugene O'Neal of Houston and the granddaughter of Mrs. Harvey Q. O'Neal and the late Mr. Harvey Q. O'Neal of Gorman, Texas, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Green Chilton of Houston. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Stanley Moss Jr. of Houston and the grandson of Mr. Robert Knox Hutchings and the late Mrs. Robert Knox Hutchings of Galveston, Texas, and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Stanley Moss of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an off-the-shoulder gown of silk organza from the Diamond Collection. The full skirt swept into a chapel length train and was complemented by her veil which extended past the train. She carried a bouquet of calla lilies and hypericum berries, along with a handkerchief that belonged to her great grandmother.
Janell Sewall Oakes of Austin, Texas served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Mary Amanda York of San Marcos, Texas, cousin of the bride, Jennifer Gray Moss and Erin Grady Kimzey of Houston. The house party included Shannon Watkins Holmes, Erin Tobola McMillin and Alicia Decker Raymond of Houston.
The groom's brother, Brian Moreland Moss of Houston, served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Kent Ransford Griffith of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Charles Markley Melton of Houston, Vince Henry Pennington of Danville, Kentucky and David Eugene O'Neal, Jr. of Austin, Texas, brother of the bride. Serving as ushers were Michael Edward Carpenter of San Francisco, California, cousin of the groom, Anthony Joseph Campiti of Dallas, Texas and Kevin Keith Frye of Midland, Texas.
The bride is a graduate of Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas and Texas A&M University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism. She is a provisional member of the Junior League of Houston. Melissa is the Manager of Attorney Employment at Baker Botts L.L.P. in Houston.
The groom is a graduate of Memorial High School in Houston, Texas and he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Dartmouth College. He has a Masters of Philosophy in European Studies from Cambridge University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin. Bill practices corporate law at Baker Botts L.L.P. in Houston.
Following a honeymoon in Hawaii, Mr. and Mrs. William Stanley Moss III will reside in Houston.
