Miss Courtney Lynn Smith and Mr. Thomas Merritt Lippincott were united in holy matrimony on Saturday, November 17, 2001 at eight o'clock in the evening at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Dr. L. James Bankston and Dr. James Jackson. Music for the service was performed by the Saint Paul's United Methodist Church Choir under the direction of Mr. Bob Brewer, the organist. Also participating were trumpeter Mr. Daniel Shipman, soloist Mrs. Anna Teagarden and the Ringers of the Chimes: Andrea Abat, Steve Collins, David Graves, Richard Graves, Mecie Hardin, Nicky Henshaw, Allen Nunley, and Tonya Savin. The reader was Miss Catherine Wiley Lippincott, sister of the groom.
A buffet dinner and dance followed at River Oaks Country Club with music provided by Commercial Art. On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at The Cadillac Bar.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Michael Smith of Houston. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Alfred Riley and Mr. and Mrs. William Clarence Smith II, both of Houston, Texas.
The groom is the son of Mrs. James Pennington Wiseheart and Mr. Laurence Lyman Lippincott, both of Houston, Texas. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Matthew Dickey and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Merritt Lippincott.
Given in marriage by her family and escorted by her father; the bride wore a gown designed by Vera Wang. The strapless princess chapel length gown was made of silk double satin in ivory with satin trim. The bride's cathedral length veil was a family heirloom of antique Brussels lace belonging to the family of her paternal grandmother.
The bride's attendants were attired in Midori iridescent shantung strapless princess gowns, julep colored with trim at the neckline and matching two-tone stoles.
Sister of the bride, Miss Kimberly Katheryn Smith of Houston, served as the Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Deborah Carlton Cook, of Madera Beach, Florida; Miss Michelene Antoinette Graham of Dallas, Texas; Miss Mary Kathleen Smith of Houston; Mrs. Shannon Smith Strehli of Atlanta, Georgia; and Mrs. Christiana Smith Stojanick of Austin, Texas. All are cousins of the bride.
Mr. Thomas Kelly Reckling served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Mr. Michael Jon Lehane of Houston; John Bingham Mitchell of Houston; Mr. Thomas Phillip Northington of San Antonio, Texas; Mr. Wesley Edward Sinor of Houston; and Mr. Charles Michael Smith, Jr. of Houston, brother of the bride.
Members of the house party included Mrs. Aimee Walsh Blalock, Miss Laura Lynn Dickey both of Houston; Miss Tanny Ursula Graham of Dallas, Texas; Miss Susan Elizabeth Hoover of Houston; Miss Catherine Wiley Lippincott of New York City, New York; Mrs. Rebecca Brody Martin and Miss Joanne Marie Pearson both of Houston; Mrs. Hiedi Luimb Prather of Phoenix, Arizona; Mrs. Michelle Hodges Reckling, Miss Emily Katherine Schulz, Miss Laura Leath Schulz of Houston, and Miss Sherdan Lynn Smith of Beaumont, Texas. Ushers included Mr. William Matthew Dickey II, Mr. Mark Lea Elliott both of Houston, Mr. James Walter Glotfelty, of Arlington, Virginia; and Mr. J.P. "Hap" Hunnicutt of Houston.
Courtney is a graduate of Alexander Smith Academy in Houston and The University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and is a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She is currently employed by The Fay School.
Tom is a graduate of Saint Thomas High School in Houston and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and is a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He is currently self employed.
After a honeymoon in Belize, the couple will reside in Houston, Texas.
