Miss Angelyn Joy Whitehurst and Mr. Harry Kirby Atwood, III were united in marriage on Saturday, October 20, 2001 at four o'clock in the afternoon at Second Baptist Church in Houston, TX. The double ring ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Dave Riggle. Music for the ceremony was provided by organist and pianist Mrs. Carol McCutchon, Trumpeter Mr. Vaughan Pederson, and the Flute and Cello by Accent Chamber Music. Scripture readings were given by Mrs. Susan Josey and Mrs. Ellen Robinson, both aunts of the groom. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at The Forest Club. On the afternoon before the wedding, a bridal luncheon was held at the groom's aunt's house, Mrs. Susan Josey, given by Mrs. Jennifer Jeffery, Matron of Honor of the bride. A groomsmen's luncheon was also given and held on the day of the wedding by the groom's grandparents and on the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted at Bistro Vino.
The bride is the daughter of Ms. Sarah Angelyn Nix of Charlotte, NC and Mr. Joel Grant Whitehurst of Houston, TX. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Byrd Nodes Sexton, Jr. and the late Mrs. Herma Young Sexton, both of Charlotte, NC and the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis James Whitehurst of Alexandria, LA. The groom is the son of Ms. Nancy Fowler Atwood and Mr. Harry Kirby Atwood, Jr. both of Houston, TX. He is the grandson of Mr. Terrell and Mrs. Margaret Atwood Couch and the late Mr. Harry Kirby Atwood and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edward Guess Fowler, all of Houston, TX.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory strapless full layered tulle skirt made by Jim Hjelm. The bodice was ivory satin fitted to the hips. It was embellished with opaque crystal beading and crocheted flowers with a pearl stone center. The veil was twotiered, and elbow length with a crystal beading headpiece. The bride also wore a cathedral veil with edging for the ceremony.
Serving the bride as Matron of Honor was Mrs. Jennifer Jeffery and serving as Maid of Honor was Miss Tara Dahnke. Serving as her attendants were Mrs. Rebecca Aschenbeck, Miss Dee Ann Byers, Miss Joanna King, Mrs. Amy Pinner and Miss Allison Wehner. Serving in the house party was Miss Kathy Keckeisen, Miss Margaret Robinson and Miss Angie Wilde. Serving as the flower girl was Miss Shelby Humphries.
Serving his brother as Best Man was Mr. Robert Atwood. Serving as attendants to the groom were Mr. Michael Duncan, Mr. Trevor Hull, Mr. Blair Jeffery, Mr. Brad Moeller, Mr. Jay Puchot, and Mr. Boyd Skelton. Serving as ushers were Mr. Todd Bush, Mr. Lenoir Josey, III and Mr. Stephen Nix, brother of the bride.
The bride is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Houston, TX and Texas A&M University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Health.
The groom is a graduate of Second Baptist High School in Houston and Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management of Information Systems and is currently employed in sales at BMC Software.
Following a honeymoon to Playa del Carmen, the couple will make their home in Houston, TX.
