Miss Christy Lynne Strawman and Mr. Mark Hunter Gehlbach were united in marriage on Saturday, October 20, 2001 at eleven o'clock in the morning at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Dr. James Bankston and Minister Reid Brown of San Antonio. Music was arranged by organist Robert Brewer who accompanied soloist Kirby Traylor. Scripture readings were given by Mrs. Lisa Wirth Brown. A luncheon reception followed at The Junior League of Houston with music by The El Orbits. The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner on the eve of the wedding at Brennan's of Houston.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Demi Kalas Strawman of Houston, Texas and the late Mr. Charles Daniel Strawman. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Mae Emanuel Kalas of Mobile, Alabama and the late Mr. Tom Kalas. The bride is also the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Daniel Strawman. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Renner Gehlbach of Waco, Texas. He is the grandson of Mrs. Emily Settle Young of Findlay, Ohio and the late Mr. Grant Hunter Young. The groom is also the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur August Gehlbach.
Given in marriage by her mother and escorted by her brother, Dr. David Andrew Strawman, the bride chose a gown designed by Carolina Herrera. The ivory silk double-faced satin gown featured a strapless neckline with a silk embroidered beaded band embellishing the cathedral train and an organza pleated hem underlay. Mrs. Laurie Strawman Dorfman, sister of the bride, of Houston, served as matron of honor.
The bridesmaids were Mrs. Leslie Gregory Wallace of Houston, Mrs. Diana Jagou Cunningham of Littleton, Colorado, Mrs. Paige Scheer Mattlage and Mrs. Kay Wills Wyma both of Dallas, Texas. Members of the house party included Mrs. Cindy Hill Burnett of Houston, Mrs. Lisa Wirth Brown of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Gretchen Gehlbach McElroy, sister of the groom, of El Paso, Texas, Miss Jennifer Laine Philpot of New York City, New York and Mrs. Kelly Harrod Woods, of Dallas, Texas.
The flower girl was Miss Claire Louise Dorfman, niece of the bride. The ring bearers were Master Charles Andrew Dorfman and Masters Eamonn Miles McElroy and Evan Marcus McElroy, nephews of the bride and groom.
Mr. Scott Adair Wood, of Dallas, Texas served as best man. Groomsmen included Mr. Lance Leroy McAlister, Mr. Donald Edwin Robb both of Dallas, Texas, Mr. Mark Bernard Engel of Saint Louis, Missouri and Mr. Jeffrey Wade McElroy, brother-inlaw of the groom of El Paso, Texas. Ushers included Mr. Scott Downer Weaver, of Sammamish, Washington and Mr. Brian James Weaver, of Kirkland, Washington, cousins of the groom, Dr. Kenneth Cobbs of Star Valley, Wyoming, and Dr. Scott Russell Dorfman, brother-in-law of the bride, of Houston, Texas.
The bride is a graduate of Westchester High School in Houston and Baylor University. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She is currently with SBC Communications in Dallas, Texas.
The groom is a graduate of Midway High School in Waco and Baylor University. He is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He is a partner in True North Advisors, an investment advisory firm in Dallas, Texas.
Following a wedding trip to California, the couple will reside in Dallas, Texas.
