Kimberly Elaine Massingill and John Joseph Klevenhagen, III were united in marriage on Saturday, October 27, 2001 at half past seven in the evening at Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by Dr. Carey B. Sayers. Music was provided by Thomas Jaber, organist, and the Chapelwood Handbell Ensemble. The scripture reading was given by Mrs. Rachel Jackson Ribbeck. A reception followed at the St. Regis with music by The Next Level Band. The day before the wedding, a bridal luncheon was held at River Oaks Country Club. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's mother hosted a rehearsal dinner at Brennan's.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Judson Thomas Massingill of Houston. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Krizan, the late Mr. Daniel Lee Krizan and the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jackson Massingill, all of Houston. The groom is the son of Mrs. Carolyn Lawless Klevenhagen and the late Mr. John Joseph Klevenhagen, Jr. of Houston. He is the grandson of Mrs. Edith Marguerite Owens, the late Mr. Harry Durwood Owens, Mrs. Viola Klevenhagen Dickey and the late Mr. John Joseph Klevenhagen, all of Houston.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a strapless ivory gown designed by Amsale of New York. The gown featured a fitted bodice with a dropped waistline. The cathedral length train fell from a generous, deeply pleated skirt. The ensemble was complete with a veil that extended past the train, held in place by a tiara of crystals. The bride's attendants wore two-piece gowns designed by Vera Wang.
Mrs. Holly Haase Korman, of Houston, served as Matron of Honor and Miss Hattie Kurth Parker, of New York, served as Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Emily Suzanne Brooks of New York, Miss Kara Lynn Klevenhagen, sister of the groom, of Houston, Miss Amie Rebecca Robinson of New York, Miss Paula Katrine West of San Francisco, California and Mrs. Kristie Parker Wetmore of Houston. Miss Hannah Ruth Herrold, of Houston, was the flower girl.
Mr. John Andrew Ratcliffe, of Durango, Colorado, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Stephen Lane Johnson, Mr. Brian Thomas Massingill, brother of the bride, Mr. Craig Kenward Ribbeck, Mr. Roy Allen Waters, all of Houston and Mr. Aaron Garth Slator of San Antonio.
Members of the house party were Miss Chandos Anne Dodson, Mrs. Anne Munger Freeman, Miss Sarah Danna Ribbeck and Miss Shannon Lynn Taliaferro, all of Houston. Serving as ushers were Mr. Mark Fortner Canfield, Mr. Lester Oren Lehman and Mr. Robert Lawton Paddock, all of Houston and Mr. John-David Torian of Austin.
The bride attended The Kinkaid School and is a graduate of The Knox School in New York and the University of Texas at Austin, where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She is currently the Manager of Attorney Employment at Andrews & Kurth, Mayor, Day, Caldwell & Keeton L.L.P. in Houston.
The groom is a graduate of Memorial High School and the University of Texas at Austin where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order and Silver Spurs. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center and is an associate at Gallagher, Lewis, Downey and Kim in Houston.
Following a honeymoon to the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Mr. and Mrs. John Joseph Klevenhagen, III will reside in Houston, Texas.
