Miss Huai-jing Mu and Mr. Mark Shepard Haywood were united in marriage on Saturday, October 27, 2001 at twelve o'clock in the afternoon at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas. The ceremony was officiated by The Reverend Peter Glynn Thomas, D. Min. and preceded by a concert of festival music performed by St. Martin's Episcopal Choir and Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. George Ellis Mims. During the ceremony, the anthem "A Marriage Prayer" by Alan Lake Chidsey, to music by Alex Kevan, was sung, as it had been at the groom's mother's wedding. A reception followed at the River Oaks Garden Club Forum of Civics with music by the Bob Henschen Quintet. A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at the River Oaks Country Club.

The bride is the daughter of Rui-sheng Mu and Yu-qin Wang of Tianjin, China. She is the granddaughter of Jin-hua Wang and Shu-yun Li of Tianjin. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a vintage gown of candlelight Italian silk satin, originally designed for the groom's aunt in 1948 and later worn by the groom's mother at her own wedding. The gown was styled with fitted bodice, Elizabethan collar, long pointed sleeves and full gathered skirt which swept into a long formal train. Her headpiece of wax orange blossoms was a 1920's original from France, as was her silk chantilly lace veil featuring Deco motifs.

Serving the bride as Matron of Honor was Elizabeth Haywood Westarp, sister of the groom, of Portland, Oregon. Maid of Honor was Wendy Wang of Houston, Junior Bridesmaid was Emma Larson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Flower Girl was Josephine Linscott Westarp, the groom's niece, of Portland, Oregon.

Serving the groom as Best Man was Keene McDonald Haywood, brother of the groom, of Houston. Groomsman was Matthew Royden Townley of Houston. Ushers were John Walter Caldwell Jr., cousin of the groom, of San Angelo; Jamie Dewar Ferguson, cousin of the groom, of Austin; Justin Carl Verm of Annapolis, Maryland; and Thomas William Westarp, brother-in-law of the groom, of Portland, Oregon.

The bride is a graduate of Tianjin Foreign Studies University. She is now an M.B.A. candidate at the University of Houston. The groom is a graduate of Texas Christian University. He is an Admissions and Financial Aid officer at the University of Houston.

Following a honeymoon in Puerto Rico, the couple will reside in Houston.
