Miss Heather Gaile Hardwick of Houston and Mr. Mark Elic Callender of Conroe were united in marriage at 7:00 in the evening on November 10, 2001, at River Oaks Baptist Church in Houston. The Reverend Martus Miley officiated the double ring ceremony. Scripture readings were given by Miss April Gaumer, cousin of the bride. The music for the service was performed by soloist Amanda Farnham and the Steve Newson Orchestra. A reception followed at the Houstonian Hotel. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Petroleum Club.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. Perry Hardwick and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schmidt, all of Houston. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Gaile Hardwick Cox, the late Dr. Milton Warren Hardwick, the late Mrs. Aida Gaumer, all of Angleton, Texas and Mr. Glenn Gaumer, of Houston. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Callender of Conroe, Texas. He is the grandson of Mrs. Erienell Callender, the late Mr. Vercie Callender, and Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Gooding, all of Aransas Pass, Texas.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride chose an exquisite gown of imported white silk. The train of silk and organza featured tiny covered buttons extending the length of the back of the gown and train, and very slender shoulder straps with a slightly beaded and embroidered bodice and train. Her fingertip length veil of silk illusion was held by a pearl and Austrian crystal headpiece. The matron of honor and bridesmaids wore bordeaux silk A-line gowns.
Mrs. Stephanie Mansfield Pennington of Waco served as the Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids included Miss Julie Antalffy of Houston, Mrs. Meka Schrader Arend of Houston, Miss Jennifer Lee of Dallas, Mrs. Allison Pappas Martin of Houston, Mrs. Karlene Poll of Houston, and Miss Elaine Poucher of Houston. Members of the house party included Miss Vanessa Paulos and Mrs. Makenzi Marshall, both of Houston.
Mr. Jeffrey Callender, brother of the groom, of San Antonio, served as the Best Man. Groomsmen included Mr. Robert Bell of Houston, Mr. George Bowers of Conroe, Mr. Craig Cagle of Austin, Mr. Travis Hardwick, brother of the bride, of Houston, Mr. Jeffrey Smith of Conroe and Mr. David Thornberry of Conroe. Serving as ushers were Mr. Stan Albrecht of Dallas, Mr. Bryan Marshall of Houston and Mr. Eric Schmidt, stepbrother of the bride, of Houston.
The bride is a graduate of Baylor University where she received a degree in accounting and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She is also a graduate of South Texas College of Law and is a corporate and securities attorney with Vinson & Elkins L.L.P. The groom is a graduate of Texas A&M University. He is currently attending South Texas College of Law and will graduate in December 2001. The groom has accepted employment with the Litigation section of Vinson & Elkins L.L.P.
Following their honeymoon in Hawaii, the couple will reside in Houston.
