Margaret Elizabeth Griffin and William Roche Murphy Jr., both of Houston were united in marriage Saturday, September 8, 2001 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. The Reverend Stanley Maneikis and the Reverend Justin Lindstrom officiated. Music was performed by organist, Arlene Lindner Small. A reception followed at Shady Oaks Country Club which was turned into a Moroccan fantasy by Dusty Ownbey Designs. Entertainment was provided by Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes. The rehearsal dinner was held at Joe T. Garcia's.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lewis Griffin of Fort Worth. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Thomas Lawrence Wright of Jackson, Mississippi and the late Mr. Wright and the late Dr. and Mrs. Otho Powell Griffin. The groom is the son of Ms. Catherine Apple Murphy and Mr. and Mrs. William Roche Murphy of Houston. He is the grandson of Mr. Jack Williams Apple and the late Jeannette Matteson Apple of Houston and Mrs. John Robert Murphy and the late Mr. Murphy of Houston.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. For her wedding, Miss Griffin chose a princess styled gown of bisque silk duchess satin designed for the House of Bianchi. Elegant in its simplicity, the strapless gown was enhanced by a wide band of silk in a basket weave pattern completely encircling the neckline. To complement her gown, Miss Griffin chose to wear a dainty tiara of gold, crystals and pearls.
Maid of honor was Miss Virginia Lynn Griffin of Fort Worth, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Melissa Mary Caughlin, Courtney Brooke Leech of Houston. Erin Blythe Glover, Kelly Elizabeth Humble of Fort Worth, Nancy Oswald Herren, Megan Michelle Pennington of Dallas, Juli Anne Justice of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Elizabeth Barnes Prim of Harlingen. The bridesmaids wore two-piece strapless ensembles made of Moroccan iridescent taffeta. Flower girls were Miss Molly Nicole McMurtry and Miss Abby Alyse McMurtry of Houston. House party included Sarah Allison Bullock of Jackson, Miss., Courtney Nicole Culver, Susan Meredith Sims of Dallas, Shannon Blair Feste, Jenna Bailey Junell, Christian Anne Richardson of Houston and Elizabeth Caffey Echols of Atlanta, Ga. Best men were the groom's brothers, Jack Robert Murphy, Travis Matteson Murphy and David Williams Murphy, all of Houston. Groomsmen were Matthew Robert Bennett, Travis Hunter Cameron, Clay Terrell Condrey, William Harrison Junell of Houston, William Landon Derby of Southern Pines, N.C. and William Brent Burney of Dallas. Ring bearer was Master Walter Herd Snider IV. Ushers were Michael Hardie Bolton of Dallas, James Raymond Cone III of Austin, Matthew Richard Fuqua, James Fredrick Hury, Garner Perry Strickland IV of Houston, Richard Eugene Seiders of Nashville, Tenn. and Michael Lee Fuqua of Washington D.C.
The bride received a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood from Texas Tech University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She is employed by Spring Branch ISD. The groom received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Tech University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He is employed by Chase Manhattan Bank.
Following a honeymoon to St. John, Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Houston.
