Miss LaTonya Monique Felix and Mr. Brian Earl Overstreet were united in marriage on Saturday, June 2, 2001 at five o'clock in the afternoon at Brentwood Baptist Church in Houston. Dr. Joe Samuel Ratliff officiated at the double ring ceremony. A reception followed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the Galleria area. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's mother hosted a rehearsal dinner at Copeland's of New Orleans.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Vanessa Elizabeth Felix and Mr. Mark Anthony Felix. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. David E. Briggs of Houston, and Mrs. Pearl and the late Mr. Mark Felix of Houston. She is the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Suzie Payne of Houston.
The groom is the son of Mrs. Johnanna and the late Mr. Early Overstreet. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Diggs of Hammond, Texas and the late Mr. and Mrs. West Overstreet of Bremond, Texas.
Miss Robyn Gerard served as Maid of Honor. Mrs. Ericka Smith, sister of the bride, served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Ashley Felix, sister of the bride, Miss Ongnae Burn and Miss LaToya Burns, cousins of the bride, and Miss Ebony Brumfield. The flower girls were Miss Haley Smith, niece of the bride, Miss Marshai Washington and Miss Chelsea Washington, cousins of the bride, and Miss Kamry Wydermere, cousin of the groom. The house party included Miss Corinne Pearson, cousin of the groom, and Miss Rasheda Trimmer and Miss Orjanaé Washington, cousins of the bride.
The memory of the late Mr. Early Overstreet, the groom's father, was invoked as the honorary best man. Groomsmen included Mr. David Hill, cousin of the groom, Mr. Tyron Collins, Mr. Christopher Hubbard, Mr. Myron Mims and Mr. Corey Robinson. Mr. Jermichael Washington, cousin of the bride, served as ring bearer. Ushers were Mr. Don Johnson, cousin of the groom, Mr. Therron Lewis, Mr. Daryl Middleton, and Mr. Michael Slider.
LaTonya is a graduate of Sharpstown High School in Houston and the University of Houston. She is currently working on her Juris Doctorate at South Texas College of Law and will graduate in May of 2002.
Brian is a graduate of Westbury High School in Houston and Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He is also a graduate of South Texas College of Law where he earned his Juris Doctorate. He is president of E. Overstreet Sports Management.
Following a honeymoon to Maui, Hawaii, the couple will reside in Missouri City, Texas.
