Miss Rachel Christine Smith and Mr. Will Spencer Leaman were united in marriage on Saturday, June 2, 2001 at seven o'clock in the evening at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. Reverend Terence Brinkman performed the double ring ceremony. Scripture readings were given by the bride's great uncle, Harvey Smith and the groom's cousin, Jill Waters. Music was provided by vocalist and family friend, Reverend Susan Jones, organist Carolyn Maddox, and trumpeter Warren Maas. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at The Warwick. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Ouisie's Table.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wes Smith of Kingwood, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hebert of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Smith of Jonesville, Louisiana.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Leaman of Richmond, Texas. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hilgenfeld of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Leaman of Rosenberg, Texas.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a wedding gown of deep ivory duchess satin designed by Priscilla of Boston. The dropped waist bodice was adorned with a delicate floral design of crystals and pearls. The full satin skirt fell into a chapel length train which was framed by a cathedral length veil of soft ivory illusion. The bride's ensemble was complete with a matching crystal and pearl headpiece.
Miss Donie Burch of New York, New York served as Maid of Honor. The bridesmaids were Miss Tiffany Miller, Miss Cynthia Pearce, both of Kingwood, Miss Molly Leaman of Dallas and Mrs. Marshall Durrett of Austin, both sisters of the groom, Mrs. Brandy Exnicious of Houston, and Miss Elizabeth Lackey of Dallas. Members of the house party included Miss Rachel Hardegree of Phoenix, Arizona, Miss Sarah Cook of Atascocita, Miss Brooke Williams of Plano, Miss Susan Scarborough of Dallas, Miss Zoey Pelley, Miss Betsy Williams both of Nacogdoches, Miss Kathryn Durham of Atlanta, Georgia and Miss Courtney Crain of Houston. The flower girls were Miss Madeline Durrett, niece of the groom, Miss Sarah Stone and Miss Jennifer Stone, both cousins of the bride.
Mr. Peter McGowan of Dallas served as Best Man. The groomsmen were Mr. Taylor Beier of Dallas, Mr. Robert Smith, brother of the bride, of Lafayette, Louisiana, Mr. Derek Lynn of Roswell, Georgia, Mr. Chance Barr of Cunwoody, Georgia, Mr. Kevin Williams of Sugarland and Mr. Hill Norvell of Houston. Ushers were Mr. Marshall Durrett of Austin, Mr. David Waters of San Antonio, Mr. Mitchell Covell of Bellaire, Mr. Lee Owens of Dallas, and Mr. Colin Shelton of Tyler.
The bride and groom are both graduates of Stephen F. Austin University where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Rachel is currently employed by The Downtown Club at the Met and Will is employed by Newmark Homes as a superintendent.
Following a honeymoon to Hawaii on the islands of Maui and Kaui, the couple will be at home in Houston.
