Sandeep Guduru Reddy
Virginia Chapman Watts and Sandeep Guduru Reddy were united in marriage on Saturday, May 26, 2001. A Hindu celebration was held at 10:30 a.m. at Sri Meenakshi Temple, Kalyana Mandapam, Pearland. The ceremony was performed by Sri Achyuta Ramiah and was followed by a luncheon reception at the temple.
A Christian celebration took place at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Houston, with the Reverend Doctor James Elder as celebrant. Joby Bell served as organist, and Padmaja and Vasu Reddy, sisters of the groom, performed a violin duet. Dinner and dancing followed the ceremony at The Warwick Hotel. On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was jointly hosted by the couple's parents at Treebeards in downtown Houston.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James William Watts III of Houston and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Geary of New Orleans, La., and of James Williams Watts Jr. of Bay St. Louis, Miss., and the late Virginia Chapman Watts. The groom is the son of Doctor Yasodhara and Doctor Madhava G. Reddy of Lubbock and the grandson of A. V. Raghava Reddy and the late Mrs. Arani Lalithamma and of Mr. and Mrs. Guduru Sesha Reddy, all of Andhra Pradesh, India.
For her Hindu wedding, the bride wore a light blue Kanjeevaram silk sari with gold brocade work presented to her by the groom's family.
For her Christian wedding, the bride selected a gown of silk satin-faced organza designed by Tamara for the Marisa Collection. The empire bodice featured a gently scooped neckline and was delicately hand-corded and beaded with pearls and pale blue crystal beads. The A-line skirt fell in graceful folds to slipper-length, flowing majestically into a chapellength train. To complement her gown, Virginia chose to wear dainty hand-beaded clear crystal fleurettes in her hair. Her two-tiered ribbon-edged veil ended in points in back and complemented the elegant look. Virginia carried an heirloom wedding handkerchief with her bouquet of peonies finished with touches of lilac.
Anne-Marie Knapp of Houston, a lifelong friend of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sarah Berges of Houston, Lillie Knapp of Houston, Padmaja Reddy of Lubbock, sister of the groom, Vasu Reddy of Lubbock, sister of the groom, and Megan Reilly of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The attendants wore matching gowns of pale blue silk. The silk was selected by the groom's mother in India and was woven for this event.
The house party included Alyson Burroughs of Fort Worth, Susan Clyburn of Houston, Lane Dilg of Boston, Mass., Amie Geary of Starkville, Miss., a cousin of the bride, and Erika Watts of Alexandria, Va., sister-in-law of the bride. Meghana Reddy of Odessa, a cousin of the groom, served as flower girl.
Manish Vira of New York City, best friend of the groom, was best man. Groomsmen were John Gore of Houston, Jesse Jorgensen of Chicago, Ill., Michael Marziani of Houston, Rajesh Shah of St. Louis, Mo., and Henry Watts of Alexandria, Va., brother of the bride.
Ring bearers were Mac Cady of Houston and Matthew Watts of Duluth, Ga., cousins of the bride. Their older brothers, Charlie Cady and Michael Watts, served as acolytes.
The bride graduated from St. Johns School, Yale University, and Baylor College of Medicine. The groom graduated from Lubbock High School, Rice University, and Baylor College of Medicine. Following their honeymoon trip to the island of Kauai in Hawaii, the Doctors Reddy will reside in St. Louis, Mo., where they will begin residency training in Internal Medicine at Washington University.
