Miss Kathryn Ann Wheat and Mr. John Dylan Huntsman were united in marriage on January 6, 2001 in a double ceremony held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and Rice University. The Reverend Joseph Macharia of Kenya performed the first ceremony and the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is sanctioned the second.
Following the ceremonies, a dinner-dance was held at Rice University's Grand Hall. Music for both ceremonies was provided by pianist Paul Cantrell, friend of the groom. On the eve of the wedding, the parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Lakes of Country Place.
The bride is the daughter of Ms. Pam Wheat, Pearland, Texas and Mr. Joe F. Wheat, Houston. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John V. Wheat, Houston, and Mrs. Dorothy Manley and the late Mr. Rufus S. Manley, Port Arthur, Texas. The bride wore a white silk gown, white veil with a pearl headpiece, and a hand embroided train fashioned by an aunt of the groom and carried a bouquet of white roses. She wore an heirloom pin first worn by her great grandmother and a garter given her by her grandmother. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Huntsman of Farmington, New Mexico. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Huntsman, Farmington, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Reyna, Brownsville.
Ms. Cai Thorman served as maid of honor. The bride's attendants were Miss Valerie Venghiattis and Miss Jing Chen. James Huntsman, brother of the groom was best man. Groomsmen were Loi Nguyen and James S. Wheat, brother of the bride. Ushers were Ryan Coover, Jay Braden, Sean Campanella, Justin Simon, and Jasper Simon. The house party included Shirien Coover, Stephanie Rupp Kwek, Teresa Blackburn, Lisee Blackburn, Sarah Streng and Wen Hong.
The bride is a graduate of St. John's School in Houston. She earned a BA from Duke University and is completing a MA at the University of Texas, Austin. The groom is a graduate of Farmington High School in New Mexico. He earned a BA from Macalester College in Minnesota and a MA from the Presbyterian Seminary in Austin. The couple is at home in Austin, Texas, after a honeymoon trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
