Miss Ellyn Lee Haikin and Mr. Adam Josef were united in marriage on Saturday, April 21, 2001 at 7:30 in the evening in the sanctuary of Congregation Beth Israel.
Rabbis Samuel Egal Karff and David Whiman and Cantor Robert Gerber officiated at the candlelit ceremony which was immediately followed by dinner and dancing.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Richard Haikin and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Fuchs, and Mr. Michael Haikin and the late Josie Haikin, all of Houston. Ellyn is the great-granddaughter of Mr. Joseph Politzer, also of Houston.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Josef of Houston and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Spector of Boynton Beach, Florida and of Mrs. Sidney Josef of Houston and the late Mr. Josef. On the eve of the wedding, the parents of the groom hosted a Rehearsal Dinner honoring Ellyn and Adam at Tony's Ballroom.
For her wedding, the bride selected an original gown by Vera Wang and fashioned of creme silk organza and duchesse satin. The bodice of the gown was embellished with petit point crystals and irridescents in delicate flower and leaf motifs. From the basque silhouette of the gown, the full skirt of organza and satin fell to slipper length and swept to form a chapel train which featured panels of the crystal embroidery. Tiers of creme illusion created the bride's veil which was held by a small crown of mirror crystals. Ellyn carried an heirloom wedding handkerchief with her bouquet of Anna roses, runuculas, sweet pea and lillies of the valley.
Jennifer Gail Haikin served as her sister's Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids included: Leslie Margolis Frankfort, Carrie Fran Krasner, and Juli Scheiner Rosenbaum, all of Houston and Kathryn Sarah Laurel Tsuchida, Leslie Paige Biltekoff, Catherine Hsia-Ching Chao and Jordan Deanna Chattman, all of New York, New York as well as Christine Madelyn Sexton of Boston, Massachusetts and Robyn Louise Strelitz of Austin, Texas. The attendants wore matching gowns of pale ivory satin and carried bouquets of Anna and Virginia roses, white hydrangea, and white hyacinths. Mae Illeana Fuchs, cousin of the bride served as Jr. Bridesmaid and Carly Julia Risman of Greenwich, Connecticut served as Flower Girl. Members of the bride's House Party included: Samantha Louise Cabot, cousin of the bride, Elizabeth Pannill and Sarah Cooley Walker, all of Houston as well as Jennifer Ilene Berliner, Glen Head, New York, Debra Jill Gavsie, Hollywood, Florida and Amy Rae Krasner, Austin, Texas.
Matthew Warren Spector served as his cousin's Best Man. Groomsmen included: Hugh Mitchell Herman, Jeffrey Scott Lepow, Sean Max Rosenbaum and Robert Brian Tobor, all of Houston as well as Scott Nathan Johns and Michael David Kotzen, both of Chicago, Illinois and Aaron May and Robert Singer, both of Phoenix, Arizona, Scott Silverman of San Francisco, California and Adam Bradley Oppenheim, cousin of the bride of New York City, New York. Zachary Scott Meyerson of Houston, cousin of the bride served as Jr. Groomsman and Forrest Buford Bruch, III of Houston, acted as Ringbearer.
Ushering were: Lewis Michael Kalmans and Daniel Stuart Ringold, both of Houston and Jeffrey Gewirtz, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Brian Michael Josef, cousin of the groom, Washington, D.C. and Loren Brett Joef, cousin of the groom of Vail, Colorado.
The bride graduated from St. Johns School, Tufts University and the University of Texas School of Law. The groom graduated Avon Old Farms in Avon, Connecticut and from Southern Methodist University. Following their wedding trip to the Hawaiian Islands, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Josef are making their home in Houston.
