Mary Elizabeth Lanier and Jonathan Brent Campbell were united in marriage in a double ring ceremony at half after six o'clock in the evening on Saturday, May 12, at the Church of Saint John the Divine in Houston, Texas.
The celebration and blessing of the marriage was officiated by The Reverend Laurens Allen Hall. Scriptures were read by Debra Winograd and Pam Rush, cousin of the bride.
Baroque music was played by the Aurias String Quintet, Jose Rivera on the recorder, Monica Fosnaugh on the oboe, Catherine LeGrand on the flute, and Scott Mouton on the harpsichord. Musical selections included Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, `Sleepers awake!', and Jeremiah Clarke's The Prince of Denmark's March played by Dan Shipman and the Ambient Brass Ensemble. John Gearhart conducted the music and provided organ accompaniment.
Musicians were coordinated by Marshall Maxwell Entertainment Agency. For the seating of the families, pianist Lino Rivera, friend of the bride, played Bach's `Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring'. The bridal processional hymn, `All Creatures of Our God and King' was sung by the congregation and the Saint John the Devine Ensemble.
Guests were serenaded by the church's twenty-three bell carillon played by Steven Newberry as they departed the sanctuary. A beautiful reception followed the ceremony at La Colombe D'Or's Le Grand Salon de la Comtesse. A wedding ballet for the couple was danced by Kendra Snaufer and Michael Douglas, choreographed by Sean Kelly, and was set to piano music by Michael Nyman. Guests enjoyed dancing to lively music by The Works. On the eve of the wedding, the bridal party attended a Texas barbecue at Pizzitola's. The bride is the daughter of the Honorable Bob Lanier and Nhan Nyguen the late Elizabeth Grant Lanier of Houston, Texas. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Clayton Lanier of
Baytown, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Carlton Grant of Dallas, Texas.
The groom is the son of Mrs. Debra Etta Kimbler of Corbin, Kentucky, and the Reverend Timothy Van Campbell of Louisville, Kentucky. He is the grandson of Mrs. Wanda Poynter and the late Mr. Homer Poynter of Corbin, Kentucky, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Van Campbell of Cookeville, Tennessee.
Given in marriage by her family and escorted by her father, the bride chose a diamond white silk satin organza wedding dress designed for her by Priscilla of Boston. Fashioned with a sculptured strapless bodice of reembroidered Alencon lace and handsewn swarovski crystals and pearls, the dress featured a gracefully gathered ball gown skirt decorated with Alencon lace, crystals, sequins, and bridal pearls. Framing her face and shoulders, the French illusion veiling was trimmed with the lace, crystals, sequins, and pearls, and fell to the length of her train and beyond. The bride's bouquet was a pave of bridal white roses, pink Anna roses, and purcelana roses infused with lily of the valley and Austrian crystals, and was tied with a white satin ribbon. The flowers were designed especially for her by Abraham of Plants and Petals.
The maid of honor was the bride's sister, Holly Lanier. Bridesmaids were Donna Lanier, sister-in-law of the bride, Deana Erwin, and Adriana Rivera. The bridesmaids wore light pink iridescent taffeta dresses by Lazaro, and carried bouquets of pink Anna roses and blue hydrangea tied with pink satin bows. The best man was the groom's brother, Adam Campbell. Groomsmen were Clay Lanier and Gus Lanier, brothers of the bride. Ushers were Johnny Grant and Grant Rush, cousins of the bride, and Tim Watkins. The groomsmen and ushers wore black shawl tails.
The flower girls were Judi Lanier and Jessica Lanier, nieces of the bride, and Celestine Rivera. They wore white satin twotier dresses with puff sleeves by Mon Cheri, and carried garden roses in light pink satin baskets made especially for them by Adriana Rivera, friend of the bride.
The ring bearer was Mitchell Lanier, nephew of the bride. He wore a black Eton suit and carried an embroidered pillow of Ancient Campbell tartan hand stitched by the bride.
Prior to the wedding, Debra Winograd honored the bride with a wonderful kitchen shower at the home of her mother, Mrs. Judy Winograd. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce and Denise Cartwright, along with Denise's parents Mr. and Mrs. Jackson and Artie Lee Hinds, blessed the couple with a fun `Honey-do' couples' shower at their home. A lovely ladies bridal luncheon was given by Holly Lanier at Brennan's. Mr. and Mrs. Clay and Donna Lanier and Gus Lanier hosted unique bachelor and bachelorette parties for the bride and groom.
Elizabeth attended Kinkaid High School and Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. She was a piano performance major at the University of Hawaii and the University of Houston, and is currently studying art at the Glassell School of Art.
Jonathan graduated from Corbin High School in Corbin, Kentucky, and is an honors student in training at Universal Technical Institute in Houston to be a technician with BMW.
After a wedding trip to Europe, Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Campbell will be at home in Houston.
