Miss Anita Ahmed and Mr. Andrew Todd Walker were united in marriage on Saturday, March 3, 2001 at half past five o'clock in the evening. The outdoor ceremony and reception were held at The Rainbow Lodge in Houston, Texas. The Reverend Ron Ramey performed the celebration and blessing of the double ring ceremony. Music was provided by the Mary Ann Willis Trio. A special reading was given by Christine Marie Vasquez, friend of the bride. A scripture reading was given by Mr. James Reid Walker, father of the groom. On the eve of the wedding, Ms. Tamara L. Walker, mother of the groom, hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Ruggles Grill.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. R. Keiko Ahmed and the late Dr. Jamil "Jim" Ahmed of Houston, Texas. The groom is the son of Ms. Tamara L. Walker of Kingwood, Texas and Mr. James Reid Walker of La Crescenta, California. He is the grandson of Mrs. Mary Walker and the late Mr. Leonard Walker of Lafayette, Indiana and Mr. Kenneth M. Andrews and the late Mrs. Mildred Andrews of Bradenton, Florida.
Given in marriage and escorted by her brother, Mr. Saeed Ahmed, the bride wore an elegant ivory satin strapless A-line gown with embroidered and beaded motif designed by Reem Acra of New York. To complement the gown, the bride wore a blusher and cathedral length veil with a pearl and crystal encrusted headpiece. She carried a rounded hand-tie bouquet of tulips, calla lilies and freesia flowers.
Miss Stacey Lynn Johnson of Houston served her friend as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Tara Brooke Taulbee of Houston and Miss Christine Marie Vasquez of Seattle, Washington, both friends of the bride. The bridesmaids wore A-line raspberry peau de soie satin gowns with rhinestone detail on the front shoulders. Each carried a bouquet of tulips and miniature French calla lilies.
Mr. Mark Edward James of Kingwood, Texas, served his friend as best man. The groomsmen were Mr. Lester D. Saucier, friend of the groom, and Mr. Saeed Ahmed, brother of the bride, both of Houston. The ushers were Mr. Sean E. Morley of San Jose, California, brother-in-law of the groom, and Mr. Jody Wayne Ross of Cypress, Texas, friend of the groom.
The wedding party included Mrs. Lisa Lester Ross of Cypress, Texas, friend of the bride, who served as a greeter. Her son, Kyle Richards Ross of Cypress served as a special liaison for the bride and groom.
The bride is a graduate of Langham Creek High School and the University of Houston where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing. She is President of MI Systems, Inc., an IT staffing solutions company. The groom is a graduate of Kingwood High School and the University of Houston where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. He is owner and operator of Earth Innovations, a landscape management company.
Following a honeymoon in Kauai and Maui, Hawaii, the couple will reside in Houston.
