Miss Aletha Brynn Harris and Mr. John Hopkins Dodge, III, were united in marriage on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at twelve o'clock at The Woodlands United Methodist Church in The Woodlands, Texas. The celebration and blessing of the double ring marriage ceremony was performed by Dr. Edmund Whetstone Robb, III. The music was arranged by organist, Mrs. Elaine Walters, who accompanied soloist, Mr. Scott Scully. The Houston String Quartet provided prelude music and The Woodland Ringers Handbell Choir played as the mothers were seated. Scripture readings were given by Miss Shannon Russell and Miss Rachel Elizabeth Smith. A reception and seated luncheon followed at The Woodlands Country Club with music provided by Yvonne Washington and The Mixx. On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's mother at The Plaza Club of Houston.
The bridge is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Dale Harris of The Woodlands, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Thomas Goldsborough Corbin and the late Major General Thomas Goldsborough Corbin of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Mrs. Joe D. Harris and the late Mr. Joe D. Harris of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The groom is the son of Mrs. John Hopkins Dodge, II, of Houston, Texas and the late Mr. John Hopkins Dodge, II. He is the grandson of Mr. Donald Gordon Wiley and the late Mrs. Donald Gordon Wiley of Indian Spring Ranch, Weatherford, Texas, and the late Major John Hopkins Dodge and Mrs. John Hopkins Dodge of Beaumont, Texas.
Miss Harris, escorted by her father and given in marriage by her family, chose a gown designed by Givenchy of Paris and New York. Fashioned in ivory silk, the sculpted bodice was graced with a neckline of embroidered lace and encrusted beadwork. The cathedral length veil was decorated with scattered pearls. To compliment her wedding gown the bride wore a tiara of tiny pearls and Austrian crystals that was worn by her new sister-in-law in her wedding in September.
Miss Alice Anne Dodge, sister of the groom, served the bride as her Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Sarah Baldwin Lipscomb, Miss Jennifer Ashley Mixon, Miss Melissa Kate Payne, and Mrs. Elizabeth Dodge Schwab, sister of the groom, all of Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Emily Graham Stroud of Dallas, Texas.
Serving as John's Best Man was Mr. Ronan Conor O'Malley. Groomsmen were Mr. Thomas Joe Harris, brother of the bride, Mr. Benjamin Eugene Pollock, Mr. Christopher Dwight Schulz, and Mr. David Michael Schwab, the groom's brother-in-law, all of Houston, Texas, and Mr. David Stephen Diamonon of Kiev, Ukraine. Serving as ushers were Mr. Thomas Hunter Ralston and Mr. William Corbin Ralston, cousins of the bride, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr. Daniel Stuart Ringold and Mr. Patrick Stanley Sorrells both of Houston, Texas, and Mr. Malcolm Chun-Yin Yeung of Oakland, California.
Aletha is a graduate of McCullough High School in The Woodlands and Texas A&M; University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Business. She is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. In May, she will earn her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law. After graduation, Aletha will work as an associate for the law firm of Stibbs and Burbach.
John is a graduate of St. John's School and Texas A&M; University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and is a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. John is employed by Reliant Energy of Houston.
Following a honeymoon trip to Turks and Caicos, Aletha and John will reside in Houston.
