Miss Joy Marie Cervantes and Mr. Steven Mark Schwinger were united in marriage on Saturday, July 22, 2000 at five o'clock in the evening at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas. Reverend Laurence A. Gipson officiated at the double ring ceremony. Organist George Mimms provided music for the ceremony. A reception followed at Inwood Forest Country Club with music provided by Hi-Tech. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Churrasco's Restaurant.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Cervantes of Houston. She is the granddaughter of Ms. Frances Stark of Houston, Ms. Juanita Decker, and the late Mr. Frank M. Cervantes, both of Redlands, California.
The groom is the son of Ms. Gail Smith Schwinger and Mr. Eugene Albert Schwinger of Houston, Texas. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert K. Smith and the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schwinger, both of Houston, Texas.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride selected an elegant A-line silk ivory satin gown with a fitted bodice accented in pearls and crystals. The bride carried a rounded, European hand-tied bouquet with intense colors of blue and purple Bella Donnas, delphiniums, and hydrangeas.
Her bridesmaids wore full-length blue silk gowns. Mrs. Virginia Cervantes, mother of the bride, served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Summer Cervantes, sister of the bride and Ms. Dianna Barnes, both of Houston, Texas.
Mr. Scott Schwinger of Houston, Texas served his brother as Best Man. Groomsmen included Michael Giesler and Kevin Gentry, both from Houston, Texas. Justin Cervantes, brother of the bride, served as an usher. The ring bearer was Master Clayton Christian of San Antonio, Texas, nephew of the groom.
Joy is a graduate of Alief Elsik High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston. She is currently a language arts specialist in the Alief Independent School District. Steven is a graduate of Memorial High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Baylor University. He is currently a day trader at Momentum Securities.
Following a honeymoon in the Northern California Wine Country, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Schwinger will reside in Missouri City.
