Miss Ashley Ann Smith and Mr. Marc Jason Zimmermann were united in marriage in a candlelight ceremony on Saturday, August 5, 2000 at seven o'clock in the evening at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. The double ring ceremony was officiated by The Reverend Lee McKinzie and Mr. Brian Keith Smith, brother of the bride. Scriptures were read by Mr. A. Phillips Nazro, III of Austin. A reception followed at The Crystal Ballroom at The Rice with music provided by Grady Gaines and the Texas Upsetters. On the eve of the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Robert James McManus, the groom's parents, hosted a rehearsal dinner at El Tiempo Tres Caballos Cantina where Los Gallitos mariachi band entertained the guests.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Vick Smith of College Station. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.V. Livingston of De Leon, Texas, and Mrs. W.A. Smith and the late Mr. W.A. Smith of Miles, Texas. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert James McManus of Katy and Mr. and Mrs. Rene Carl Zimmermann of Highland, New York. He is the grandson of Mrs. Mary Ann Tracey and the late Mr. Joseph Anthony Tracey of North Bergen, New Jersey, Mrs. Lillian Dorothy Zimmermann of West New York, New Jersey, and the late Mr. Rene Jacob Zimmermann, of Weehawken, New Jersey.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore Manale's "Lily" gown of ivory silk and French chantilly lace, which was delicately beaded with crystal bugle beads. Worn sleeveless, the beaded drop waist bodice featured a scooped neckline in front and back. Silk buttons and loops accentuated the dresses' low back closure. An A-line skirt fell from beneath the bodice and flowed into a chapellength train.
Serving their sister as Maid and Matron of Honor, respectively, were Miss Allison Renee Smith of Corpus Christi and Mrs. Ronna Smith Scruggs of College Station. Bridesmaids included sister-in-law of the bride, Mrs. Traci Lyn Smith of Katy, and Mrs. Rebecca Seecs Banks of Washington, D.C., Miss Cara Elizabeth Bergen and Mrs. Tobey Dawn Forney, both of Houston, Mrs. Tracy Montalbo Hird of San Antonio, Mrs. Amy Celene Houdek of Dallas, and Dr. Stephanie Rae Nielson of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Members of the House Party were Miss Shari Beth Fallek, Miss Alexia Montserrat Nash, and Miss Sherry Suzanne Niemann, all of New York City; Miss Dawn Michelle Beach, Miss Anissa Jan Crumley, and Miss Catherine Grace Henderson, all of Houston; and Dr. Neva Niccole White of Nashville, Tennessee. Miss Madelyn Rose Morgan of Plano, cousin of the bride, served as flower girl.
Serving as his brother's Best Man was Mr. Rene Michael Zimmermann of Houston. Groomsmen included Mr. Robert Douglas Starr, II of Abilene, Mr. Michael Eugene Bohny of Sugar Land, Mr. Maury Lenard Magids and Mr. Keith Allen Sultemeier, both of Austin, Mr. Jason Joseph Battaglia of Hoboken, New Jersey, and Mr. Ike Wallace Claypool, Mr. Mark Dale Duval and Mr. Mark Oliver Shwausch, all of Houston. Ushers were Mr. William Byrd Arend of Katy, Mr. William Dean Cotton of Dallas, Mr. Shay Wright Scruggs of College Station, and Mr. Paul Joseph Coppola, Mr. Mark Edward Massey, and Mr. Travis Howerton Van Horn, all of Houston. The Masters Reed Matthew Zimmermann and Reece Michael Zimmermann of Houston, twin nephews of the groom, served as ring bearers.
Ashley is an honors graduate of Denton High School, the University of Texas at Austin, and The University of Houston Law Center. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and an attorney employed by Vinson and Elkins, L.L.P. as an Associate. She practices employment and labor law.
Marc is an honors graduate of Langham Creek High School and Baylor University. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and is a C.P.A. employed by Jefferson Wells International as a Business Development Manager. He currently attends the Executive Masters Program at Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and is pursuing a Masters in Business Administration.
Following a honeymoon trip to the Hawaiian islands of Maui and Kauai, the couple will continue to work and reside in Houston.
