Murphy - 40th
Mr. And Mrs. Edward F. (Pat) Murphy of Savanna, Ill., will be honored with an open house to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15, 2004, at the Savanna Moose Lodge.
Ann Wellman and Pat Murphy were united in marriage on Aug. 29, 1964, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Palmyra.
Mr. Murphy is the son of the late Edward (Frank) and Darlene Murphy, formerly of Hannibal.
Mrs. Murphy is the daughter of Leola Wellman of Palmyra and the late L.A. (Unk) Wellman.
They are the parents of three children, Rob (Lora) of Savanna, David (Abby) of Warren, Ill., and Erin (Chuck) Wiebenga of Fulton, Ill. They have nine grandchildren, Catie (Omar) Jordan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Keegan and Ashley Murphy of Warren, Ill., Natalie, Candice, Kyle and Kasey Murphy, all of Savanna, and Patrick and Ian Wiebenga of Fulton, Ill.
Mr. Murphy will retire in February 2005 after more than 34 years in the communications department of the BNSF Railway Co.
He is a member of the Palmyra Knights of Columbus Council 1937 and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 547.
He is a former IHSA and ASA official.
Mr. and Mrs. Murphy are both 1962 graduates of McCooey Memorial High School in Hannibal.
Mr. Murphy also graduated from Moberly Junior College having played basketball for Coach Cotton Fitzsimmons on the 1962-63 squad that placed second in the NJCAA Tournament and also in 1963-64.
He also attended Kirksville State Teachers College, now Truman State.
Mrs. Murphy is semi-retired as the station manager of WCCI-FM 100 in Savanna.
She is a member and past president of the Savanna Rotary Club, the Restoration Advisory Board of the Local Redevelopment Authority of the former Savanna Army Depot and has been a very active volunteer in many community groups and activities.
Together they have hosted several long and short-term Rotary exchange students in their home.
They are members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
They enjoy bicycle riding and most of all spending time with their grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend the open house.
