Miss Kimberly Burns McMahan and Mr. Benton Harper Howard were united in marriage on Saturday, June 6, 1998, at six o'clock in the evening at Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. The candlelight double ring ceremony was performed by Reverend Larry Bertrand. Music was provided by organist Mr. Steve Roddy, pianist Dr. Don Looser, vocalist Mrs. Lisa Mahan and Mrs. Robin Ramsey, flutist. A reception followed the ceremony at Lakeside Country Club of Houston, with music provided by The Family Tree. On the eve of the wedding a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at The Forest Club.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Hoyt McMahan of Houston. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Burns of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and of Mr. and Mrs. J.K. McMahan, also of Hattiesburg. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ray Howard of Garland, Texas and the late Mr. and Mrs. P.E. Tucker of Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride selected a gown of white silk satin, designed by Carolina Herrera, embroidered with bridal pearls and crystal beading. Fashioned with a bateau neckline with a slight V at the back, the gown featured horizontal embroidery on the sleeveless bodice. The box pleated skirt extended to a chapel train with the hemline completely encircled with the exquisite embroidery. Her headpiece of clustered pearls and Austrian crystals held her veiling of pearl sprinkled silk illusion. Framing her face and shoulders, the veiling fell, in tiers, to the hem of her train and beyond.
She wore a heirloom bracelet belonging to her great great grandmother, which was worn by the bride's mother at her wedding. She also ware earrings worn by the groom's grandmother.
The bride's maids of honor were her two sisters, Miss Melissa Elaine McMahan and Miss Carrie Katherine McMahan of Houston. The bridesmaids were Miss Jennifer Diane Christian, Miss Allison Leigh Peyton, Miss Mary Catherine Schneider, and Miss Kimberly Victoria Tadross, all of Houston, Miss Amber Elise Eichelberger of Waco, Texas, and Mrs. Amy Howard Muller and Ms. Jane Howard Morrison, sisters of the groom of Garland, Texas. Miss Meagan Rae Morrison, the groom's niece, served as flower girls.
The groom's father, Mr. Richard Benton Howard, served as his best man. The groomsmen were Mr. Stephen Blake Davis, Mr. Jeremy Lane Howell and Mr. Zachary Armstrong Rogers and Christopher Todd Rossetti, all of Garland, Texas, Mr. Christopher Lee Cason of Plano, Texas, Mr. Walter Courtland Fountain, of Wimberley, Texas, Mr. Matthew Dwight McMahan, brother of the bride, of Houston and Mr. John Mitchell Sizelove of Kileen, Texas.
The ushers were Mr. Marcus Clay Atnipp and Mr. Jameson Kent Parker of Houston. Mr. Christopher Cayce Clinton, Mr. Colin Blake Edwards, Mr. John Jason Emerson, and Mr. Michael Don Ferguson, all of Garland, Texas, and Mr. Harold Harris Pickel, of Nashville, Tennessee, Mr. Stephen Blake Scharlach of Mt. Pleasant, Texas and Mr. Matthew John Muller of Dallas, Texas.
Serving in the bride's houseparty were Miss Allison York Bech, Miss Margaret Carolyn Ogilvie and Miss Julie Nan Naponic, all of Houston and Miss Mikell Erin Cunningham, of Lubbock, Texas and Miss Mallory Ann McShan, of Garland, Texas.
The bride is a graduate of Memorial High School and Baylor University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education and is presently a kindergarten teacher at Barbara Bush Elementary School in Houston.
The groom is a graduate of South Garland High in Garland, Texas and Baylor University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science and environmental studies and will be attending South Texas College of Law affiliated with Texas A&M; University in the fall.
Following a honeymoon trip to Cobo San Lucas, Mr. and Mrs. Howard will reside in Houston.
