Miss Catherine Mary Gardner and Mr. Gregory Stewart Watson were united in marriage on Saturday, June 20, 1998, at noon at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. The double ring ceremony was performed by Dr. James W. Moore, with music provided by organist, Dr. Robert C. Bennett; trumpeter, Teresa Hanebury; and soloist, Billy James Hargis II. A reception followed at Houston Country Club with music by the Lucky Strikes of Austin. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at the Coronado Club.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Phillip Gardner of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Houston, and Mr. and Mrs. John Timothy McMahon of Houston. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Barnard of Perryton, Texas, Ms. Joan Phelan Quarm of El Paso, Texas, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Warren Hafner Gardner of El Paso, Texas.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart Watson of Houston. He is the grandson of Mrs. Wilbur Eugene Hess and the late Mr. Hess of Houston and Mrs. Max Powell Watson and the late Mr. Watson of Houston.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride selected a gown of white silk satin and organza. Worn off the shoulder, the gown featured a fitted elongated bodice with a softly pleated skirt and was enhanced by insets of sheerest silk organza in the sleeves and above the hemline. To complement her gown, she wore a veil of French illusion edged with a wide band of satin. The bride's attendants wore two piece, floor length gowns of champagne satin.
Emily Robison Greer served as Matron of Honor and Dynasy Kay Moore-Serratt served as Maid of Honor, both of Houston. The bridesmaids were Sarah Catherine Finley of New York, New York; Jessica Elaine Hudgins, Lesley Lipshultz Keller, Jennifer Joan McMahon, sister of the bride, Merritt Pappas, and Laura Watson Talbert, sister of the groom, all of Houston; Elisabeth Crosswell McCullough of Dallas, Texas; and Kelly McMahon Smart, sister of the bride, of Memphis, Tennessee.
Kyle Richard Schuenemann of Nashville, Tennessee, and John Stewart Watson, father of the groom, of Houston served as Best Men. The groomsmen were Scott Raymond Butler, cousin of the groom, John Marshall Dodson, Jeffrey Shea Guinn, and Andrew Paul Price, all of Houston; Laurel Franklin Coan, Junior and Gregory Franklin Wright, Junior of Atlanta, Georgia; Samuel Cordon Hill of Orlando, Florida; and Cecil Albert Thompson III of Dallas, Texas. The ushers were John Thomas Culp, Junior, William Price Roe, Stephen Blair Smith, and Winston Miles Talbert, all of Houston; Troy Alexander Duncan of Evanston, Illinois; and Robert Lane Mitchell, Junior of Atlanta, Georgia.
The bride is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Houston and the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
The groom is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Houston and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and is employed by Enron Capital Trade and Resources in Houston.
Following a honeymoon trip to Nevis, West Indies, the couple will reside in Houston.
