Miss Joellan Barker and Mr. Christopher Paul Mullen were united in marriage on Saturday, June 6, 1998 at two o'clock in the afternoon on the lawn at Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston. The ceremony was officiated by the Rector Emeritus John C. Donovan. Music and bells for the ceremony were provided by the Dorian String Quartet. A bank of blooming hibiscus, oleander and fern surrounding the David Moore ^"Little Girl Statue" created the altar area. Entrance through an archway of tropical greens, white anthurium clusters, orchids and sunflowers were designed by Larry Janzen of the Galveston Flower Company. The fathers of the bride and groom read scripture passages from the Bible during the ceremony. A lovely reception followed in historic Eaton Hall with catering by Cathy Conlon Townsend. Trumpet vases and white urns filled the space with bird of paradise, heliconia, sunflowers and dendrobium orchids.
The couple departed in a horse drawn 1890 Opera bus carriage driven by the brides uncle, Mr. Stewart Morris Jr. A rehearsal dinner hosted by the grooms parents, was held the evening before at Marios Italian Restaurant on the beach.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David VanNess Barker of Galveston. She is the grand daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Morris Sr. of Houston, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Huston Barker, also of Houston.
The groom is the son of Colonel and Mrs. Jack Mullen of College Station. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mullen of Indiana.
Given in marriage by her father, Joellan wore a white Eilet cotton dress with fitted bodice and jacket all designed in Battenburg lace. The bride's hair and bouquet were adorned with white anthurium and yellow oncidium orchids.
The maid of honor was Miss Ann Bray of Galveston. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Danielle Alvarado of Houston and Mrs. Vanessa Zein-Eldin of Tallahassee, sisters of the bride, and Miss Jennifer Grantham of Missouri City, niece of the groom. The bridesmaids cobalt blue gowns were accented by bouquets of sunflowers, bird of paradise and tropical foliage.
Brother of the groom, Mr. Michael Mullen of College Station was the best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Michael Iglio of Denver, Mr. Richard Pfeil of Carollton and Mr. Allan Warren of Georgetown. The ringbearer was Master Cameron Zein-Eldin, nephew of the bride.
Members of the house party included Mrs. Cindy Mullen, sister-in-law of the groom, Mrs. Julie Grantham, sister of the groom, and Mrs. Lisa Clements and Mrs. Dianne Barker, both aunts of the bride. Ushers at the wedding included Mr. Bill Grantham, nephew to the groom, and Major Edwin Grantham, brother-in-law to the groom, and Mr. Chris T. Mullen, also a nephew of the groom.
Joellan is an honor graduate of Ball High School and graduate of Texas A & M University with a degree in biomedical science. She is currently pursuing a bachelor degree in nursing at Houston Baptist University.
Chris is an honor graduate of Seguin High School and graduate of Texas A & M University where he received a degree in elementary education. Chris is employed as a kindergarten teacher of T. L. Pink Elementary School of Richmond.
Following a honeymoon in Hawaii, the couple will reside in Richmond.
