Maria Elizabeth Scardasis and Craig Wilson Wyatt Jr. were united in marriage on Saturday, June 13, 1998 at three o'clock in the afternoon in Galveston, Texas at Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. The Very Reverend Father George Thanos officiated at the ceremony. The organist was Robert Kunce of Galveston and the Chanter was George Comits of Houston. The reception was held in the ballroom of Ashton Villa in Galveston and music was provided by Innovative DJ Concepts. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at Fisherman's Wharf in Galveston.
Maria is the daughter of Captain and Mrs. John T. Scardasis of Clear Lake City, Texas. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Scardasis and the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Henley.
Craig is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Wyatt of Great Falls, Virginia. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kammer and Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Wyatt. +The bride was given away by her parents and escorted by her father. She wore an ivory silk dupioni A line silhouette gown by Christos which featured an intricately beaded Venetian lace empire bodice and a modified Bateau neckline with delicate tulip sleeves. The skirt was left elegantly unadorned except for a Venetian lace scalloped hem that followed the length of the cascading chapel train. To complement her gown she wore an imported heirloom headpiece intricately woven with gold scrolls and tiny leaves that were accented with seed pearls and Austrian crystals held her double silk illusion chapel train. To complete her ensemble, she carried a bouquet of hand-tied of watercolor shades of peonies, hydrangea and Queen Anne lace.
The bride's sister, Katherine Scardasis, was the maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Belinda Williams, Natasha Loeblich, Jennifer Wyatt, sister of the groom, and Adrian Theopulos, cousin of the bride. Carolyn Crowell, cousin of the bride, was a member of the houseparty. The Koumbara was Mrs. Nellie Theopulos. The bridesmaids wore sage green formal dresses of georgette and chiffon with empire waist and tulip sleeves by Jim Hjelm. they carried hand tied bouquets of Sarah Bernhardt peonies and Queen Anne lace.
The groom's brother, Michael Wyatt, was the best man. The groomsmen were Billy Vannoy, Dave Mason, Ssgt. Troy McGath, and Ssgt. John Sura. The United States Saber Team from Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX., formed the honor guard as the couple left the church after the ceremony.
Maria is a 1991 graduate of Clear Lake High School and a 1995 graduate of McMurry University where she received her B.S. She is pursuing her Master's in Community Counseling from St. Mary's University. She is a member of Theta Chi Lambda, Womens'Social Club, Phi Alpha Theta and History Honor Society. She is a 1st grade teacher with Harlandale I.S.D. in San Antonio, Texas. Craig is a 1988 graduate of Park View High School in Sterling, Virginia. He is a member of an elite cadre of Field Training Instructors for U.S. Air Force Basic Military Training, Lockland AFB, San Antonio, Texas.
The couple left for an undisclosed honeymoon. They will be at home in San Antonio.
