Martin John de la Torre
Miss Stacy Holt Wadsworth and Mr. Martin John de la Torre were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony in a private Nuptial Mass celebrated by Father Christopher Billac, S.J. Rice Memorial Chapel, Rice University on Saturday, June 27, 1998. A reception followed for their extended family and friends at Tony's Ballroom, with music by The Kit Reid Band. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Tony's Restaurant.
Stacy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bowie Wadsworth, and the granddaughter of Mrs. Louise Morse Hanshaw and Mrs. Blanche Holt. Martin is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Jorge de la Torre. He is the grandson of Mrs. Annie Rose McDermott and the late Mr. John McDermott of Freemont, Ohio; and Mrs. Esther de la Torre and the late Mr. Diego de la Torre of Houston.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, Stacy was lovely in a classic gown of cream silk crepe and pleated tulle, an original design by Lazaro. The sleeveless bodice featured a round open neckline, elongated waistline, and a bouffant skirt of pleated tulle over a layer of iridescent that added dimension and interest. Her veiling of silk illusion was held by a tiara of Austrian crystals and cascaded to chapel length, creating a sweeping train.
Mrs. Nadia Deans, sister-in-law of the bride, served as Honor Attendant, and Dr. Jorge Ignacio de la Torre served his brother as Best Man. Stacy's brother, Captain Jeffrey Deans, and Mr. Lale Geer, Martin's brother-in-law seated the guests. Organist, Jan Jouette, and Mary Martha Black, Vocalist, provided classic music for the wedding ceremony. Candlelighters were Miss Cristina de la Torre and Mrs. Carol de la Torre.
Stacy is a 1987 graduate of Saint Agnes Academy. She received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Latin American Studies from Southern Methodist University, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Stacy received her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1994 from Southern Methodist University, and she is currently a prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney's Office
Martin is a graduate of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Martin received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Houston Law Center and is currently an attorney with the law firm of Gallagher, Lewis & Downey.
Following a honeymoon at Cap Juluca, located on the island of Anguilla in the British West Indies, the bride and groom will reside in Houston.
