Richard and Shirley Strahl will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve.
Richard Strahl and Shirley Applegate were married Dec. 24, 1952, at Applegate Farm in Carlyle.
The couple have four children, 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
He worked in retail for 59 years working for S.H. Kress, TG&Y and Wal-Mart traveling through Kansas, California, Oklahoma, Texas and Florida.
She is secretary for Calvary United Methodist Church.
The couple have lived in Hawaii and have enjoyed camping.
They have traveled to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the Holy Land, Bethlehem, Egypt, Athens and Turkey.
No celebration is planned.
The couple requests no gifts or cards.
