Reeds celebrate 60 years of marriage
Max and Bette Reed
Max and Bette Reed, Columbia City, are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 5, with a dinner with friends and a trip west later in September.
The couple was united in marriage at the bride's home in New Haven on Sept. 5, 1943 by the Rev. Thurman B. Morris, pastor of the New Haven United Methodist Church. Their honor attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moog of Columbia City.
Parents of the couple are the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bell and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Reed.
The Reeds are the parents of Sharon (Thomas) Laird of Boca Raton, Fla., Christine (Jim) Chaffins, Geneva; Diana (Larry) Graves, El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Max graduated from Columbia City High School in 1941. He was associated with his father and brother in Reed Shoe Store in 1943. In 1967, he and Bette assumed full ownership of the store until they retired in 1969.
Max volunteers with the Meals on Wheels program.
Bette graduated from New Haven High School in 1942. She worked at the Garden Gift Shop before joining her husband in the shoe store.
Max has been a resident of Columbia City most of his life and Bette for 60 years.
