Gross
50th Anniversary
Elaine and Harrold Gross celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary July 16 at an open house at Tucson Masonic Lodge #4. It was hosted by their children and Mrs. Gross’ brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Alice Webb.
Now retired, Harrold was a carpenter and supervisor for the MM Sundt Construction Company.
Elaine works part-time for Munson Tucson Date Company.
They were married July 17, 1944 in Ellwood, Ind. and have lived in Tucson 49 years.
They have two sons, listed here with their wives: Karen and Allen Gross of Mesa and Lynda and Craig Gross of Tucson. They also have one granddaughter, Erin Gross.
Zinsmeister
50th Anniversary
M. Maxine and Herbert “Herb’ Zinsmeister will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary in late August at Tanque Verde Guest Ranch with their children. This will be followed by a Caribbean cruise in November, returning in time to spend Thanksgiving with children and grandchildren in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mrs. Zinsmeister is a homemaker and Mr. Zinsmeister is a retired civil engineering consultant for Arthur Beard Engineers Inc.
They have three children, listed here with their spouses: Karen and Tom Getman; H. Eric Zinsmeister; and Betsy and Dan Kiley. They have seven grandchildren.
De La Rosa
51st Anniversary
Retirees Alicia and Antonio J. De La Rosa celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary with a mass followed by a reception at the San Manuel American Legion Post #48. They were married Feb. 20, 1943 in San Manuel.
Their six sons and daughters and their spouses were attendants. Their children are Marco Antonio, Jimmey and Johnny De La Rosa; Irma Salazar; Maria Ortiz; and Evelia Hazeltine. They have 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
They have lived in Arizona 39 years.
Shelpman
50th Anniversary
Beryl and Clayton Shelpman celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at Pinnacle Peak Steak House with their family. They have three children, Betty Madden of Tucson, Arthur Shelpman of Bothwell, Wash. and Danny Shelpman of Amarillo, Texas, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
They were married June 25, 1944 in Lancaster, Ohio and have lived in Arizona 38 years. Mrs. Shelpman is a homemaker and Mr. Shelpman is employed by Millwright Construction.
Senn
50th Anniversary
Marion “Mimi’ and Ronald Senn will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary July 30 with a family reunion at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Jr. and Belinda, at RoJo Ranch in Peralta, N.M.
They were married July 28, 1944 in Tacoma, Wash. and have lived in Arizona 35 years where Mimi taught ceramics for 30 years and Ronald was employed by the University of Arizona Garage. Both are now retired.
They have seven children, 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Beavers
50th Anniversary
Betty and Elbert R. Beavers celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a dinner party at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Paul J. Megna, of Tucson. It was hosted by their two daughters, Peggy Stigers and Betsy Megna.
They were married June 25, 1944 in Portsmouth, Va. and have lived in Arizona 33 years where Mrs. Beavers retired from Kappa Gamma and Mr. Beavers retired from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
They have six grandchildren.
Hoffman
50th Anniversary
Gerry and Vernon Hoffman celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary June 17. They were married June 17, 1944 in Waukesha, Wis. and moved to Tucson in 1958.
Gerry is a homemaker and Vernon is a retired iron worker.
They spent their anniversary doing what they enjoy most – camping in Northern Arizona with their family. This was followed by a dinner party at a local restaurant with family and close friends. They are planning a trip to Laughlin, Nev. compliments of their children.
Colpitts
50th Anniversary
Francys “Fran’ and Bernard “Bernie’ Colpitts celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary June 25 with a luncheon at Hilton East, and in July flew to Charlotte, N.C. to celebrate with their children and grandchildren. They renewed their vows at St. Peters Catholic Church in Charlotte where they were married June 24, 1944.
The couple is retired. Fran was employed as a registered nurse for Southern Arizona Allergy Associates. Bernie, now employed by Butera Real Estate, was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force.
They have four children: Kay Colpitts La May, Hope Garner, Susan Delehanty and Ben Colpitts.
Van Curan
50th Anniversary
Margaret and William A. Van Curan celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Milagros Van Curan.
Margaret is a homemaker and William is a retired truck driver and Marana school bus driver.
They have seven children: Diane Charnock, Barbara Browning, William R. Van Curan, John Van Curan, Norma Welch, Kathleen Becker and Richard Van Curan. They have 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Suess
50th Anniversary
Ruth and Miland Suess celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a dinner at Tucson National Resort with family and friends from Chicago, Ill. and Tucson.
They were married June 6, 1944 (D-day) in Oakland, Calif. while Ruth was in nursing school and Miland was serving in the U.S. Navy.
Ruth is a registered nurse working at St. Mary’s Hospice. Miland retired after 20 years with the Lincolnwood (Ill.) police department and now designs and manufactures tools for making custom jewelry.
They have five children: Bruce Suess and Lorrie Karutz of Tucson and Randy, Marshall and Dana Suess of Chicago.
Cervantes
50th Anniversary
Esperanza and Alfonso Cervantes celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with an 11-day Caribbean cruise to Alaska with their daughter and son-in-law Evelyn and Chris Brown and the Cervantes’ grandsons Scott and Paul Brown.
Esperanza and Alfonso are pictured on their wedding day, July 11, 1944, in Tucson. They were married at Holy Family Church while Alfonso was in the air force during World War II. He served in Central America and Peru. Esperanza is a homemaker and Alfonso is a retiree of Hughes Aircraft Company. They also had a daughter, Gloria Ann, who is deceased.
Rogers
50th Anniversary
Rachel B. and William H. Rogers celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a family reunion in Tucson. All their children, Michael J. Rogers of Huntsville, Ala., Deanne J. Wheeler of Fallbrook, Calif., and Kathryn J. Lorenson of Tucson, attended the celebration. They also have seven grandchildren.
They were married July 12, 1944 at Drew Field in Tampa, Fla. Mrs. Rogers is a homemaker and Mr. Rogers is retired from the U.S. Army and the Department of Defense Civil Service.
Rowe
50th Anniversary
Virginia and Earl J. Rowe celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with friends at Enchanted Hills Baptist Church.
They were married June 9, 1944 in Kansas City, Mo. They have lived in Arizona 24 years where Mrs. Rowe retired from Hughes Aircraft Company and Mr. Rowe retired from the State of Arizona Department of Corrections.
They have two children, Martha McClenny and Ruth Basty, both of Tucson, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Ezzo
50th Anniversary
Ruth and Joseph Ezzo celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at a surprise dinner party at the home of their son, Joseph Jr. It was planned and hosted by him and their daughter, Nancy Oaxaca, both of Tucson. Family and a few friends attended.
The Ezzos were married June 20, 1944 in Phoenix. They now are retired.
They have two grandchildren.
Erikson
50th Anniversary
Irene and Herbert Erikson celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a church service and dinner at Resurrection Lutheran Church.
They were married July 6, 1944 in Chicago, Ill. They have lived in Arizona 12 years where they now are retired. Mrs. Erickson was employed by Geis and Crossew Monument Company and Mr. Erickson was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Company.
They have three children: Janet Peterson of Marana, Joyce Jones of Poquoson, Va. and Nancy Lowe of Oro Valley. They have nine grandchildren.
Parks
50th Anniversary
Ruth and Gerald Parks celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a reception at El Parador Restaurant after renewing their wedding vows before friends and family. They were married July 3, 1944 in Prescott and have lived in Arizona all their married lives.
Ruth is a homemaker and Gerald is employed by Arizona Public Service at Redrock.
They have five children: Linda Lorbeer, Gerald Parks Jr., Robert Parks, Roger Parks, and the late Liana Parks. They have five grandchildren.
Falk
50th Anniversary
Reva and Ivan Falk celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a dinner at Elks Lodge #2532 and an open house at the Lutheran Church of the King. The celebration was hosted by their son and daughter-in-law Ron and Connie Falk and grandsons Darin and Bryan of Columbus, Neb. and daughter Carol Falk of Tucson.
They were married June 24, 1944 in Sioux Falls, S.D. and have lived in Arizona 16 years.
Mrs. Falk is a retired UA staff member and Mr. Falk owns and operates Shelburg of Tucson Used Car Lot.
Rice
50th Anniversary
Elizabeth and Howard Rice, Sr. celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a reception at Westward Look Resort June 18 for friends and family. It was hosted by their children. A family dinner followed at Club 21.
They were married June 10, 1944 in Yuma. They have lived in Arizona 30 years where Mr. Rice retired from Phelps Dodge Corporation in Morenci.
They have three children: Howard Rice, Jr. and Robert Rice of Phoenix and Nancy Rice Callicotte of Tucson. They also have four grandchildren.
