50th Anniversary
Mary and Forrest Parker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a gathering of family and friends at the Tucson home of their daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Mary Jane Hicks and Mr. P.R. Vaughn.
They were married April 24, 1946 in Lordsburg, N.M. Now retired in Green Valley, Ariz., Mr. Parker was self-employed as proprietor of a grocery store in Winkleman, Ariz. for 44 years.
Their other children are John (Charles) Parker who is in the U.S. Navy stationed in Japan, Bill Parker of Chicago, and Frances Roberts of Catalina. They have 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Johnson
50th Anniversary
Alma and Don Johnson celebrated their 50th anniversary with a cruise to Alaska and a family dinner in Tucson with all children present.
Mrs. Johnson is from Columbus, Ohio and Mr. Johnson is from Lakewood, Ohio. They were married Aug. 17, 1946 at the Third Avenue Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio. Nine-year Tucson residents, Mrs. Johnson is a homemaker and Mr. Johnson retired from the Railroad Perishable Inspection Agency in Cleveland, Ohio.
Their children are Connie (Jerry) Taylor of Tucson, Christine Johnson of Wooster, Ohio, and Ann (Jerry) Moore of San Diego, Calif. They have 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Walsted
50th Anniversary
Doris and Arthur Walsted celebrated their 50th anniversary by renewing their vows and celebrating with family at Mrs. Walsted’s sister’s home in Pueblo, Colo.
They were married Aug. 18, 1946 in Pueblo, Colo. Twenty-seven year Tucson area residents, Mrs. Walsted is a retired real estate broker and Mr. Walsted retired from the U.S. Air Force and Tucson Transit.
Their children are Sandra Day of Honolulu, Hawaii, Linda (Ron) Van Deman of Gilbert, Ariz., Barbara Keith of Tucson, Paul Walsted of Tucson, and Laura (Steve) Fields of Biloxi, Miss. They have 10 grandchildren.
Monka
50th Anniversary
Gloria and William Monka will celebrate their 50th anniversary in October with family and friends at the Plaza Hotel.
The Monka’s were married July 6, 1946 in Glenview, Ill. Thirty-nine year Tucson residents, Mrs. Monka is a homemaker and Mr. Monka retired in 1988 from Pima County as a building inspector.
Their children are Mary Jo (Byron) Batey of Novato, Calif. and Anne V. (Bob) Hutson of Phoenix. They have 2 grandchildren.
Black
55th Anniversary
Helen and Earl Black celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with a trip to the White Mountains of Arizona.
They were married Aug. 31, 1941 in Joplin, Mo. Ten-year Green Valley residents, Mr. Black retired from U.S. Borax in Boron, Calif.
Their daughter is Connie (Tom) Curtis of Tucson. They have two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Rodenkirch
60th Anniversary
Catherine and William Rodenkirch Sr. celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 18 by renewing their vows at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. A party with family followed.
They were married Aug. 18, 1936 in St. Mary’s Church in Fond du Lac, Wis. and have lived in Tucson since August, 1952. Mr. Rodenkirch is a retired real estate broker and Mrs. Rodenkirch is a retired secretary. Their 5 children are Joan (Herm) Willie of New York City, Bill (Ann) Rodenkirch Jr. of Tucson, Ann (Godfrey) Cernyar of Tucson, John Rodenkirch and Mary Erickson of Tucson. They have 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Genung
50th Anniversary
Lyle and George Genung celebrated their 50th anniversary with a buffet reception at El Parador Restaurant on Sept. 7, 1996. Many out-of-town relatives and friends attended the celebration.
The Genung’s were married Sept. 4, 1946 at St. Philip’s in the Hills Church. Mrs. Genung is a Tucson native and Mr. Genung was born in Prescott.They are Tucson High School and The University of Arizona graduates.Mr. Genung retired after 35 years of coaching and teaching at Amphitheater High School.
Their children are Farrell Genung of Tucson, Herb (Ava) Genung of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Sandy (Joseph) Saavedra of Tucson. Their grandchildren are Jacque and Jennifer Genung, Adam and Jared Saavedra, and George McQueen.
The Genung’s divide their time between residences in Tucson and Lakeside, Ariz. and enjoy golfing at both.
Gibson
50th Anniversary
Libby and Lester Gibson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends at their youngest son’s home in Tucson.
They were married Oct. 22, 1946. The 40-year Tucson residents are now retired.
Their children are Dave (Carolyn) Gibson and Lester (Cindy) Gibson Jr. of Tucson. They have 4 grandchildren.
Sauer
50th Anniversary
Ginny and Bill Sauer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by the love and laughter of their family and friends at La Fuente Restaurant in the gardenroom.They were wined and dined, and serenaded by the mariachis. Their precious loved for each other was felt by all present.
They were married Aug. 31, 1946 in New York City, N.Y. and have lived in Tucson for 22 years. They are now retired.
Their four daughters are Terry Jayodowski, Mary Simpson and Eileen Munoz all of Tucson, and Marian Gerlach of New York.
They have 10 grandchildren.
Weiler
50th Anniversary
Helen and Earl Weiler celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends at a party given by their children at Las Margaritas Restaurant.
They were married Sept. 25, 1946 at First United Methodist Church in Tucson. Mrs. Weiler is a homemaker and Mr. Weiler retired in 1992 after 49 years of practicing dentistry.
Their children are Richard Weiler of Tucson, Polly (Ron) Martin of Etowah Tenn, Linda Weiler of Marina Del Rey, Calif. They have two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Arizpe
50th Anniversary
Juanita and Polo Arizpe celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by dining out with their family.
The Arizpe’s were married July 12, 1946 in Alice, Texas. They are 31-year Tucson residents. Mr. Arizpe retired from government civil service.
Their two children are Jose (Pat Healy) Arizpe of Tucson and Lulu (Bill) Rice of Tucson.
Thompson
50th Anniversary
Madaline and Jock Thompson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary during a reception with family and friends at Sun City Vistoso.
They were married Sept. 17 in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Thompson was Chief Metallurgist for Astralloy in Birmingham, Ala. They are both now retired and reside in Sun City, Tucson.
Their children are Joan (Tom) Lawrence of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Ron (Joan) Thompson of Tucson. They have 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Whipple
50th Anniversary
Bridget and William Whipple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a party with Children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews at her daughter’s home in Tucson.
The Whipple’s were married Sept. 1, 1946 in Williams, Ariz. Eight-year Tucson residents, they are retired.
Their children are Bridget Whipple of Elko, Nev., Bobby Whipple of Tucson, Brenda (Reed) Taussig of Los Altos, Calif., Rebecca (Mervin) Hammerschmith of Portland, Ore. They have 6 grandchildren.
Stanek
50th Anniversary
Rosemarie and John L. Stanek Jr. celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception given by their children at “The Old Time Tavern” in Toms River, H.J. Family and friends attended, including 3 members of the wedding party.
They were married at Mount St. Mary’s on the Hudson in Newburgh, N.Y. on July 20, 1946. Mr. Stanek, formerly a District Manager for Cineplex Odeon theatres, and Mrs. Stanek, formerly an Executive Assistant for Supermatic Corp., retired from New Jersey to Tucson in 1989.
Their children are John (Barbara) Stanek of Toms River, N.J., Richard Stanek of Old Bridge, N.J. and Barbara (Mike) McCartney of Tucson.Their grandchildren are Kim, John IV, Mike, Rich and Lisa.
Specter
70th Anniversary
Miriam and Samuel Specter celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at the Sea Lodge in La Jolla, Calif. at the ocean with family and friends who drove in from various cities to join the celebrations.
They were married Aug. 7, 1926 in Chicago, Ill. Both retired, they are 10-year Tucson residents and lived in Scottsdale, Ariz. for 10 years. Their children are Gerald (Elaine) Specter of Chicago, Maynard (Syral) Specter of Richard, Va., and Betejoy (Rabbi Arthur) Oleisky of Tucson. They have 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
