Gladys DM. and William L. Chalmers celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their home in Tucson. They were married by his father, Justice of the Peace D. G. Chalmers, on July 5, 1936 in Tucson, Ariz. Mrs. Chalmers is a homemaker. Mr. Chalmers is a retired conductor from the Southern Pacific Railroad. heir children are Cheryl (Larry) Taylor of Yuma, Mary Bich of Tucson, and Robin (Michael Purser) Chalmers of Atlanta, Georgia. They have 6 grandchildren, Shawn (Jerry) Wofford, Chris (Tiff) Taylor, Lisa Taylor, Laura Bich, and Julia and Rebecca Purser. They have 2 greatgrandchildren, Blake Wofford and Zachary Taylor.

50th Anniversary
Jean M. and Warren H. Lorenzen celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at Redeemer Ev. Lutheran Church. Their four children sang “The Lord’s Prayer’ and “O Happy Home Where Thou Art Loved Most Dearly.’ The celebration continued with a buffet luncheon at the home of Debbie and Joe Dyjak with friends and family. The event was hosted by their children and spouses. They were married July 28, 1956 in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. Mrs. Lorenzen is employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Tucson Medical Center. Mr. Lorenzen is retired and is now enjoying time with his children and 5 grandchildren.
Their children are Linda (Danny) Kirkpatrick, Tim (Sally Reynolds) Lorenzen, Debbie (Joe) Dyjak all of Tucson, and Donna Lorenzen of Denver, Colo.

50th Anniversary
Dorothy and Bernard Zellner celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends during a luncheon reception in the Glenbrook Apartments party room. They were married Aug. 3, 1946 in Lebanon, Pa. Thirty-two year Tucson residents, Mrs. Zellner is a retired geriatric home health care nursing assistant and Mr. Zellner retired from Tucson Plumbing.
Their children are Don (Anita) Zellner of Sacramento, Calif., Renee (Bill) Hutchison of Tucson, Elizabeth (Tommy) Ringo of Tucson and Dave (Lynn) Zellner of Tucson. They have 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Nancy and Walter P. Pavlik celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends during an Aug. 3 surprise party at their home in Northwest Tucson. They were married Aug. 5, 1946 in New York City. Ten year Tucson residents, Mrs. Pavlik is a homemaker and Mr. Pavlik retired from Pan American Airlines/Kennedy Airport. Their children are Walter J. (Sharon) Pavlik of Floral Park, N.Y., John P. Pavlik (Sharon) of Tucson, and Catherine A. Reardon of Seaford Harbor, N.Y. They have 7 grandchildren.

25th Anniversary
Shirley and Franklin B. Abert Jr. celebrated their silver wedding anniversary with friends and family during a surprise party held in their honor given by their daughter at their home in Sahuarita. Special guest JoAnn Voorhies, who came from Indianapolis, Ind., had not seen the bride in 25 years. They were married June 26, 1971 in Aurora, Ill. Residents of Sahuarita for 7 years, Mrs. Abert is a retired teacher from Frederick, M.D. Mr. Abert also retired in Frederick and now works part-time for the Sahuarita School District. Their daughter, Julie Abert, attends Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

50th Anniversary
Eileen and John Heintz celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married at St. Paul’s Church in Whitesboro, N.Y. on Aug. 10, 1946. They were treated to a Caribbean Cruise in April by their son and daughterin-law, Jim and Susie Heintz. The family celebrated at Harrah’s in Las Vegas. All of their children, June (David) Aubry, Colleen (Paul) Dull, Jim (Susie) Heintz and Gary (Jeanne) Heintz and 9 of their 10 grandchildren attended the party on Avenue 10th in Las Vegas. They also have 1 greatgrandchild.
Otto
50th Anniversary
Kay and Tom Otto will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a small dinner party hosted by Tucson family and friends at Anthony’s in the Catalinas in late August. Winter residents of Boynton Beach, Fla., the Otto’s have spend summers in Tucson since 1990. Mrs. Otto, the former Kathleen Hamilton, is a retired homemaker, avid golfer, walker and E-mail enthusiast. Mr. Otto retired in 1984 after serving for 14 years as National President of the Railroad Yardmasters of America, AFL-CIO. He previously had been a yardmaster for the Pennsylvania and Penn Central Railroads in Weirton, W.Va. Also an avid golfer, he is an accomplished yachtsman and devoted dog lover. The Otto’s were married Aug. 31, 1946 at the First Methodist Church in Wellsburg, W.Va. They have three children, Heather Otto (married to Mike Liddicoat) of Tucson, Tim Otto of Chicago and Alison Otto of New York. Their favorite (and only) granddaughter is Kathleen Grace Liddicoat also of Tucson.
Murray
50th Anniversary
Helen Keen and Richard Y. Murry celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a vacation trip to the Rocky Mountains in Allenspark and Estes Park, Colo. They were married Aug. 24, 1946 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Tucson. After the Murrays’ children were old enough, Mrs. Murray accepted a position as R.N.a in charge of normal newborn babies at University Medical Center, a position in which she served almost from the center’s openings until her retirement in 1989. Mr. Murray was a teacher and department head at Amphitheater High School for almost 40 years. He was head of the Social Studies Department and then head of the Foreign Language Department for 2 decades. He was inducted into the Amphitheater High School “Register of Excellence’ in 1986. He served as president of the Amphitheater Classroom Teachers Association (ACTA) and later as founding and four-time president of the Pima County Local of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT, AFL-CIO). Subsequently, he was twice president of the Arizona State AFT and vice-president of the Arizona State AFL-CIO. In the second half of the 1960s, the Murrays spend 2 years in Honduras, Central America where Mr. Murray, on leave from Amphi High School, was director of a United StatesHonduran Bi-national Center under grant from the U.S. Information Agency. The Murrays’ children are Richard Y. (Bobbi) Murray Jr. of Tucson, Tim (Caroline) Murray of Tucson, Cynthia A. Murray of Bisbee, Ariz., and Rebecca Murray Lee of Globe, Ariz., and the late John E. Murray, Kevin A. Murry and Martha Ann Murray all of Tucson. They have 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Watson is is a teacher in the Sunnyside School Districtf. Mr. Watson retired from Tucson Electric Power in July. Their children are Tracy E. Watson and Terri L. Watson, both of Tucson. Muir 50th Anniversary Velma and Joe celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a memory party on July 21, 1996 in Tok, Alaska. The Muir’s were presented with a memory quilt. Friends and family who were unable to attend sent a short story about the couple’s life through their 50 years of marriage to be placed in a memory book. They were married Aug. 7, 1946 in Dodge City, Kan. Forty year Tucson residents, Mr. Muir retired from Hughes Aircraft Co. Their children are Tom (Marcia) Muir of Gold Canyon, Ariz. and Don (Debbie) Muir of Tok. They hae 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Beverly and Dominic A. Chiaro celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a 2week trip to Kauai, Hawaii and a 7day Alaska cruise, a gift from their children. The Chiaro’s were married June 18, 1946 in Bloomington, Ill. Forty-one year Tucson residents, Mr. Chiaro is retired from California Portland Cement Co. Their 3 children are Vicki (Robert) Hanson of Tucson, Kenneth (Donna) Chiaro of Tucson and Beverly Jean (James) Fink of Dallas, Texas. They have 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

40th Anniversary
Kay T. and Ronald W. Hilwig celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a weeklong inter-island cruise to Hawaiian Islands aboard the S.S. Independence. They were married June 9, 1956 in Tunkhannock, Pa. and have lived in Tucson for 22 years. Mrs. Hilwig holds the Master and Doctor of Arts degrees from London Metropolitan Institute. She teaches art and paints in her home studio. Mr. Hilwig holds the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State Univeresity and the Ph.D degree in comparative cardiology from The Ohio State University. He condusts cardiac research at the University Heart Center and is a faculty member at The University of Arizona College of Medicine. Their children are Tona (Steve) Wilson of Tucson and Kara Hilwig of Bonner’s Ferry, Ind.
Powell
50th Anniversary
James V. (Jim) and G. Jeanette Breannan (Jean) Powell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a fiesta gala hosted by their family. They were married Sept. 1, 1946 in Geneva, N.Y., where they were both stationed at Sampson Naval Hospital as hospital corpsmen. Jim picked Jean out at a USO dance, telling a buddy, “That’s the girl I’m going to marry!’ Three months later, they were married. They both attended the University of Minnesota after being honorably discharged from the Navy. Mr. Powell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and Mrs. Powell had their first child. The Air Force recruited Mr. Powell, and they moved to San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Powell completed Officers’ Candidate School and Mrs. Powell gave birth to their 2 daughters who are 15 month apart. While Mr. Powell attended Radar Observer/All Weather Fighter training, Mrs. Powell and family traveled to California. They were reunited at Elmendorf AFT, Alaska. Their second son was born 3 weeks before being transferred to Mather AFB in Sacramento, Calif. The Powell’s traveled the globe. They lived in Okinawa, Japan and have visited China, Thailand and Europe. After a 27-year military career, 11 years overseas duty, and 3 combat years, Mr. Powell retired in Tucson, Ariz. Mrs. Powell maintains a beautiful home, cares for her 96 year old mother, Winona Brennan, and throws the best family gettogethers. Mr. Powell was a technical writer for Hughes Aircraft Co. for 10 years. Now retired, he enjoys working in his shop building furniture, carving figurines, gun smithing and building telescopes. When not throwing parties or working in their yard, the Powell’s are on the road in their ITASCA recreational vehicle. Their children are Co. Jon (Lt. Col. Linda Arndt) Powell of Lake Ridge, Va., Dawn Ashenfelter of Mesa, Ariz., Kelly (Jack) Parker of Vail, Ariz., Piper Kevin (Kara) Powell of Tucson, and Skylar (Phyllis) Powell of Tucson. Their grandchildren are Angela and Bridget Powell, Zachary and Lincoln Pace, Michael, Brian Stephanie and Jenifer Parker, and Kristofer and Karl Powell. They have 1 great-grandchild, Zachary James Parker.
Knauff
60th Anniversary Melva (Meg) and Cecil W. (Rusty) Knauff celebrated their 60th anniversary with a family reunion in Colorado that included 6 days of sightseeing in the area of Canon City and Colorado Springs. Mr. Knauff grew-up in Canon City and had the joy of showing his children and grandsons his former home and schools. The climax of the tour was a dinner at the LeBaron Hotel in Colorado Springs, decorated in traditional diamond motif Following the reunion, The Knauff’s traveled in Utah. Later this fall, they will be going to the Grand Canyon where they spent their wedding trip. Mr. Knauff retired after 27 years with Hughes Aircraft Co. Prior to his employment at Hughes Aircraft, he owned and operated Knauff’s Impressive Printing. In December, 1995, he donated his printing equipment to the Arizona Historical Society. The Knauff’s both have numerous hobbies, traveling is their favorite. Their goal of visiting all 50 states and photographing each capitol was realized by their 50th anniversary. Mrs. Knauff collects angels, unique bells, fawns and miniatures.She is an avid photographer. Mr. Knauff collects elephants and has more than 600 from various parts of the world. Their children are Larry (Anne) Knauff of Fairview, Tenn., Randy Knauff of Anchorage, Alaska, and Marjorie (Bob) Fye of Lakewood, Colo. Their grandsons are Bobby, Michael and David Fye.
