Figueroa
50th Anniversary
Viola Nd Joe Figueroa celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception and dancing at El Parador restaurant.
They were married October 16, 1945 in Tucson and have lived in Arizona all of their lives. Mrs. Figueroa is employed by Mr. John’s Beauty Salon and Mr. Figueroa is retired from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
Their three children are Joe Figueroa Jr., Carlos Figueroa and Jim Figueroa all of Tucson. They have eight grandchildren.
Kent
50th Anniversary
Jeanne and Page Kent celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family luncheon at Anthony’s. The couple previously celebrated with a trip to the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego and to Catalina Island. They were married Nov. 15, 1945 in Elkton, Md. They were both in the Navy stationed in Philadelphia at the time.
Mr. Kent is a retired pharmacist. Their children are Linda Hodges of Tucson; Bob (Reta Ann) Kent of Union Hall, Va.; Kathy (Ed) Agee of Roswell, Ga.; and Leslie Kent of Tucson. They have 9 grandchildren.
Voorhees
68th Anniversary
Mary Elizabeth and Harold L. Voorhees will celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary during Thanksgiving dinner. Their children, grandchildren, sisters of Mrs. Voorhees and the niece and husband of Mr. Vorhees. They celebrated at the home of the Voorhees and daughter Marguerite Weirich.
They were married Nov. 24, 1927 in Hagerstown, M.D. Twenty-nine year Tucson residents, Mr. Voorhees retired in Chicago, Ill. in 1962 from M.D.T. Corp., a division of New York Central Railroad.
Their children are Marquerite L. Weirich of Tucson, Karen L (Daniel Jr.) Bell of Chino, Calif., and Jimette K. Baker of Tucson. They have 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Steehler
50th Anniversary
Eleanor and Richard Steehler celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a party given by their five children in July in New York. The couple will host a luncheon at Inn Place in November.
They were married Nov. 24, 1945 in Rochester, N.Y. Mr. Steehler retired after 35 years with Eastman Kodak in Rochester.
Their children are David Steehler of Eden Prarie, Minn.; Marlene Bates of Parks, Ariz.; Janet Bolton of Kendall, N.Y.; Barbara Reamer of Kent, N.Y.; and Carol Schreiner of Lyndonville, N.Y. They have 13 grandchildren.
Minnick
50th Anniversary
Veronica “Vera’ and Edward “Ed’ Minnick celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a open house in their home with family and friends.
They were married Nov. 22, 1945 in New York, N.Y. and have lived in Arizona 44 years. Mrs. Minnich retired from The University of Arizona and Mr. Minnich retired from Hughes Missile Systems.
Their children are Patricia (Robert) Blassingame of Tucson and Michael (Christine) Minnick of Carlsbad, Calif. They have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Conrad
60th Anniversary
Beatrice and Grover Conrad will celebrate their 60th anniversary with family and friends during at open house at Casas Adobes Baptist Church on Nov. 24. The entire Thanksgiving weekend will be a special family time.
They were married Nov. 23, 1935 in Burlington, Ky. Mr. Conrad retired after 20 years from Farmers Insurance Company.
Their children are Carol (John) Rose, Jack (Bonnie) Conrad, MaryAnn (Harold) Hubele and Judith (Carl) Schroeder all of Tucson, and James (Sandra) Conrad (deceased) of Yuma. They have 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Coto
50th Anniversary
Maria Ramona “Monchie’ and Nacho Cota celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at St. John’s Church. A dance at the Tucson Convention Center Grand Ballroom followed the ceremony. A dinner at the Disabled American Veterans Hall was held the next day. The celebration, which included family and friends, was put together by the Cotas’ children and grandchildren.
Honor attendants were Mrs. Cota’s brother and sister-in-law, Jose J. “Cuti’ and Carmen Tadeo.
They were married Aug. 24, 1995 at Sacred Heart Church in Nogales, Ariz. They moved to Tucson from Harshaw, Ariz. 41 years ago. Mrs. Cota is a homemaker and Mr. Cota is retired from Magma Copper Co.
Their 12 children are George (Judy) Cota of San Manuel; Danny (Pauline) Cota of Catalina; Nacho (Liz) Cota, Jose Luis (Mercy) Cota, Salvador Cota, David (Rhonda) Cota, Frances Cota, Ursula Cota, Marcia (Octavio) Noperi, and Julie Cota all of Tucson; and the late Aurelia A. Cota. They have 31 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The couple’s children said, “Mom and Dad, we love you.’
Santa Cruz
50th Anniversary
Gilbert and Frances Santa Cruz celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner given by their children and grandchildren during which the family presented the couple with a Mexican Rivera Cruise.
They were married Nov. 9, 1945 in Douglas, Ariz., where they were both born and still reside.
Mr. Santa Cruz retired from Phelps Dodge.
Their children are Velma and Manuel Estrada of San Manuel, Cynthia and Eddie Tinsely of Tucson, Bertina Shirley of Tucson, Sandra Green of Tucson, Gilbert Jr. and Nancy Santa Cruz of San Manuel.
They have 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Johnson
60th Anniversary
Esther and Lloyd Johnson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 12 at the home of their daughter, Ellen Evans.
The couple was married Nov. 9, 1935 in Topeka, Kan. Mrs. Johnson is a homemaker and Mr. Johnson retired from farming.
Their children are Ellen (Wayne) Evans of Tucson and Leah (Harlan) Ralph of Albuquerque, N.M. They have five grandchildren.
Norton
50th Anniversary
Eloise and Clinton Norton of Catalina celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their two sons and families at Dolce Vite. The couple was married Oct. 30, 1945 in Tucson. They met in early 1945 while Mr. Norton was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and she worked at Walgreens on Congress Street. Mr. Norton returned To DMAFB from Saipan for discharge. Mrs. Norton later worked in clothing fashion at Lady Mardians and retired from O.P.T. A plumber, Mr. Norton retired after 40 years, a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 741. Their children are Michael (Becky) of Tucson, Roger (Judy) of Catalina, and Bonnie Kay (Dr. Jeffrey) Fisher of Newport, R.I. They have seven grandchildren.
Linthicum
50th Anniversary
Jane and Seth Linthicum will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary throughout November and December when all their children come to visit with them.
They were married Nov. 25, 1945 in Fayetteville, Ark. After living all over the world, including Peru, Germany and various locations in the United States, the couple retired to Tucson 24 years ago.
Mrs. Linthicum volunteers with the Tucson Symphony Women’s Association and is a member of P.E.O. Mr. Linthicum is a retired colonel in the U.S. Army. He was a hospital administrator.
Their children are Linda Jane (Gary) Campbell of Herndon, Va.; John Charles Linthicum of Dusseldorf, Germany; Kathleen Linthicum (Robert) Semelsberger of Vienna, Va.; and Victoria Gail (Chris) Christopher of Tucson. Their 5 grandchildren are Jamie, Laura, Liz, Robin and Katie.
Their children wish to thank them for a lifetime of love and support.
Yager
50th Anniversary
Judy and Bill Yager celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party for friends and family at Elks Lodge #385.
They were married Oct. 19, 1945 in Willmar, Minn. They have lived in Tucson for 19 years. Mr. Yager retired from Learjet Corporation.
Their three children are Kenci and Kali of Tucson and Kris (Thurman) Watson of Sacramento, Calif. They have 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Smith
50th Anniversary
Hazen and William A. “Dick’ Smith celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in their home with their children and grandchildren. They were married Nov. 17, 1945 at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church.
During World War II, Mr. Smith served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific. Mr. Smith retired from Lily Ice Cream Company in May, 1988 after 40 years of employment. Mrs. Smith worked as a bookkeeper for George C. Codd Construction Co. for many years.
After their retirement, the Smiths were the owner/operators of the West Slope Rental Cabins in Greer, Ariz. during the summer months. The Smiths sold the Greer property in 1988 and now live in Tucson year-round.
Their children are Nancy (James Hermann) Chaney of Scottsdale; Marjorie (John) Spencer of Tucson; and Craig (Regina) Smith of Winnemucca, Nev. They have eight grandchildren.
