Domino
30th Anniversary
Valerie and George Domino celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with family and friends.
They were married Aug. 14, 1965 in West Haven, Conn. Mrs. Domino is a school nurse with Tucson Unified School District #1 and Mr. Domino is a psychology professor at The University of Arizona. Their three children, who flew in to join the celebration, are Brian Domino of Ohio, Marisa Domino of Baltimore, M.D., and Marla Domino of Boston, Mass.
Leon
25th Anniversary
David and Linda Leon celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Reno, Nev. and visited relatives in Lake Tahoe.
They were married Aug. 22, 1970 in Whittier, Calif. The couple moved to Tucson and stated their family. Mrs. Leon is general manger for Valley North America, Reno. Mr. Leon is a supervisor of letter carriers
They have one son, Christopher.
Cipriani
60th Anniversary
Joanna and John Cipriani celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at home with family and friends.
They were married Aug. 8, 1935 in Fall River, Mass. Mrs. Cipriani is a homemaker and Mr. Cipriani retired from Ford Motor Company.
Their three children are Vincent (Jean) Cipriani of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Cynthia (Don) Carlson and Jean Cipriani of Tucson. They have six children and three great-grandchildren.
Bard
50th Anniversary
Barbara and Wendell Bard celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends at a reception at Mountainside Village.
The couple was married July 31, 1945 in Kutztown, Penn. Both retired, Mr. Bard was with Hughes Aircraft Co.
Their two children are Cheryl Smith of Tucson and Jeffrey Bard of Marana. They have nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Gabusi
40th Anniversary
Edna and Ruben Anthony Gabusi, Sr. celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at the surprise party given by the Mrs. Gabusi’s brother, Louis, and her sisters, Dinie and Diane, who were in the original wedding marty. The Mexican fiesta celebration featured mariachis, pinatas, margaritas and mexican food.

Perry
40th Anniversary
Janiece J. and Alan Perry celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a trip to one of their favorite vacation spots, Laughlin, Nev. The couple’s children and grandchildren celebrated with them at a pizza and swimming party at the Perry’s home prior to their departure. The couple will take a trip to Boston later this year, courtesy of their children.
The couple was married Aug. 20, 1995 in Terre Haute, Ind., while juniors at Indiana State University. The 1956 graduates moved to the Tucson/Oro Valley area in August 1971. Mrs. Perry retired in May 1995. She taught third grade at Thornydale Elementary School in the Marana Unified School District. She was with MUSD since 1972. Mr. Perry retired in January 1994. He was an electrician at Magma Copper, Co. in San Manuel for 19 years.
Their children are Lynn Perry of Long Beach, Calif., and Steve (Mary) Perry, Ken (Kelli) Perry, Marsha Vorholzer, and Sheila (Stan) Woods, all of Tucson. Their grandchildren are Michael Christopher, Natalee and Clayton Perry; Allie and Kelsey Vorholzer; and Hayley Woods, all of Tucson.
Three of the Perrys’ children also celebrated anniversaries in August and/or September: Steve and Mary Perry, 11 years, Ken and Kelli Perry, 10 years, and Sheila and Stan Woods, five years.
Mandros
45th Anniversary
Carmen Martinez and Frank M. Mandros celebrated their 45 wedding anniversary in September by cruising the Mediterranean embarking in Spain to France, Rome, Turkey, and toasting their anniversary in Athens, Greece, the homeland of Mr. Mandros’ father, Andrew Demitrius. They ended their 16-day cruise in Venice.
They were accompanied by lifelong friends, Mr. and Mrs. John Mora (Dolores was maid of honor), Dr. and Mrs. Salvador Martinez (Joan was Madrina de Lazo), and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Laos.
The native Tucsonans were married on May 13, 1950 at St. Augustine’s Cathedral. Mr. Mandros retired from civil service at Fort Huachuca.
They have three children all of Tucson: Francine (Roland) Bourland, Georgeanna (George) Couston, and Andrew (Julia) Mandros. Their three grandchildren are George Mandros Couston, James Mandros Bourland and Carmela Louise Bourland.
Grantham
60th Anniversary
Robert E. Grantham and Katherine Noon of Arivaca were married Sept. 6, 1935 in Nogales.
Mr. Grantham was a gasoline distributor in Nogales and Douglas and is now a rancher. Mrs. Grantham is a homemaker. Both are lifetime Arizona residents.
Their children are Jean (Jim) DeVore of San Diego, Robert A. of Tucson and Kathryn. They have eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Chonis
10th Anniversary
Sheila and Dino Chonis celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary para sailing and snorkeling in Maui, Hawaii.
The Tucson natives were married Sept. 7, 1985 in Tucson. Mrs. Chonis is employed by Roy Long Realty and Mr. Chonis is owner of Tino’s Pizza.
Their children are Morgan, age 7, and Dimitri, age 2.
Sweeney
45th Anniversary
Connie and Bill Sweeney celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary by attending the wedding of their oldest daughter, Debra, to John Schmid in Prescott on Sept. 3. The celebration included the wedding dinner, the Sweeney’s anniversary dinner, and their youngest daughter, Liesl’s anniversary dinner celebrated at Mountain Shadows Resort in Phoenix.
The couple was married Sept. 5 in Lubbock, Texas. She is retired from Allied Signal and he is a retired educator. Their children are Robert Clifton Sweeney of Lakeside, Debra Ann Schmid and Liesl Elaine Johnson both of Phoenix. They have five grandchildren.
Makowski
50th Anniversary
Joan and George Makowski celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party for friends and family at V.F.W. #4903.
They were married Sept. 25, 1945 in Chicago, Ill. Forty-three year Arizona residents, Mrs. Makowski retired from Tucson Unified School District and Mr. Makowski retired from Speedway Glass and Mirror.
Their three children are Jerry Makowski, Joan Marie Makowski and Debbie McNally all of Tucson. They have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Clark
50th Anniversary
Doris and Joseph L. Clark celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an intimate family dinner at The Hassayampa Inn in Prescott.
They were married Sept. 6, 1945 in Tucson. Mrs. Clark is a retired homemaker and Mr. Clark is retired from Magma Copper Co.
Their five children are Norman Clark of Phoenix, Marka Clark of Tempe, John (Phyllis) Clark of Tucson, Carol (Randall) Green of Tucson, and Nancy (Oystein) Konsmo of Tucson and Oslo, Norway. They have seven grandchildren.
Magee
25th Anniverary
Bob and Yvonne Magee were feted with a reception to celebrate 25 years of marriage at the home of Chuck and Sally Moffett, Mr. Magee’s sister. Many friends and family joined in the celebration.
They were married Aug. 29, 1970 in Jacksonville, Fla. and returned to Mr. Magee’s native Tucson in 1977.
Their children are Mike, of Santee, Calif.; Bob of Tucson; Lisa Magee and Maggie Greene of Las Vegas. They have five grandchildren.
Shoffstall
25th Anniversary
Angela and Tom Shoffstall celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by renewing their marriage at Mass at San Xavier Mission. Fr. Michael Dallmeier officiated. Family and friends gathered at the couple’s home after the service. They plan an Alaskan cruise in 1996.
They were married Sept. 12, 1970 in Covington, Ky. Mrs. Shoffstall is employed by the City of Tucson Finance Department and Mr. Shoffstall is employed by Asarco. Their children are Steve Shoffstall, who is stationed in San Diego with the U.S. Navy, and Stacy Shoffstall of Tucson.
Duncan
60th Anniversary
June A. and George C. Duncan celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with Sunday brunch with family at Gold Room at the Westward Look Resort. They plan a cruise to the Bahamas in October.
They were married Sept. 1, 1935 in Winona, Ariz. Both are retired from George Duncan Advertising, Inc.
They have one child, Neale W. Duncan of Tucson. They have eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Soto
50th Anniversary
Alicia and Joseph Soto celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Mass at St. Augustine’s Cathedral. Msgr. Arsenio Carrillo officiated. A reception with family and friends followed at the Pack-em-In West.
The native Tucsonans were married Sept. 15, 1945. Mrs. Soto retired from Hughes Aircraft Co. and Mr. Soto retired from Joe Sotos Painting Contractors. Their children are Joey Soto, Mary (Wera) Soto, Mary Alice (Prieta) Martinez, Patricia Wagner, Kathleen Hernandez, David Soto and Leah Gastelum of Tucson and Rosemarie Garcia of Clearlake, Calif. They have 28 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Beel
60th Anniversary
Maxine and Cecil Beel celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Officers Club.
They were married Sept. 1, 1935 Casey, Ill. Mrs. Beel is a homemaker and Mr. Beel retired from A.E. Staley Co. in Decatur, Ill.
Their children are Joyce (Jim) Myers and Jeannette Beel both of Tucson and the late Randel Pride. Their three grandchildren are Randel, Jeanine and Cecil.
O’Connor
50th Anniversary
Betty Jeane and Joseph Paul O’Connor celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their wedding vows at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Their son, Fr. Pio O’Connor, officiated. A reception with family and friends followed.
They were married Aug. 29, 1945 in St. Louis, Mo. Mrs. O’Connor is a retired homemaker. Mr. O’Connor retired from the U.S. Air Force after 29 years and from SunTran after 10 years. Their children are Joseph P. Jr of Clayton, Mo.; Fr. Pio “Michael’ of Chile, Ariz.; Timothy J. of Adel, Iowa; M. Patricia of Eager, Ariz.; Margaret A. of Phoenix; and Catherine F. and Cynthia C. of Tucson. They have six grandchildren.
