Crump
60th Anniversary
Eva and James Crump celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary with family and friends at a dinner, dance and party at the Sabbar Shrine Temple in Tucson.
The couple was married March 31, 1935 in Texarkana, Ark. They lived in Citrus Heights, Calif. until 1982 and moved to Salem, Ore. where they lived until February when they moved to Tucson. Their eight children are James of Oregon, John or Oklahoma, Auther of Idaho, and Carol St. Martin, Mary Roebuck, Judy Lang and Janie McGuire all of California. They have 26 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Bussey
50th Anniversary
Grace and Fred Bussey celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Jan. 7 with a surprise reception hosted by their children. They were married Jan. 6, 1945 in Bloomer, Ark.
Celebration highlights included a videotape presentation of the Bussey’s first 50 years together and reading a congratulatory letter from former President and Mrs. George Bush who share the Bussey’s wedding date. Nieces Jan Stewart and Bonnie Harris of Marietta, Okla. and other out-of-state visitors attended. The couple and 65 relatives attended a week-long family reunion in Marietta in May that featured a traditional Oklahoma fish fry.
The couple’s four children are Peggy and Wes Jeter of Phoenix, and Darrell and Pam Busey, John and Gayle Erikson, and Grant and Dee Bussey all of Tucson. Their grandchildren are Aaron and Meg Jeter, Tammy Shorey, Sara and Kate Brinson and Riley Bussey.
Both retired in 1978. Mr. Bussey completed a civil service career at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and Mrs. Bussey was one of Sunnyside School District’s first women drivers. The 30-year Tucson residents are active in various local civic projects.
Torres
50th Anniversary
Maria Luisa and Antonio Torres celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. A Mass was said in their name followed by dinner and dancing at the El Pueblo Center.
They were married July 30, 1945 in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. Mr. Torres retired from Southern Pacific Railroad. Their children are Maria Luisa Giese of St. Paul, Minn. and Matias Torres and Sara Roman of Tucson. They have nine grandchildren.
Sites
50th Anniversary
Lynn and George sites celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with family and friends at a dinner party at Tubac Golf Resort’s Montura Restaurant in Tubac. Rocky and Isabel Sites, their son and daughter-in-law, arranged the party.
The couple was married June 25, 1945 in Tucson. Their children are Ivy (Bob) Graser of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho and Rocky (Isabel) Sites of Tucson.
The 36-year residents now reside in Green Valley. Mrs. Sites is a homemaker and Mr. Sites is a retired United States Army Officer and is now employed by Coldwell Banker in Green Valley.
Feldman
50th Anniversary
Ester and John Feldman celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at a surprise buffet dinner party given by their sons Rick and Gil Feldman and his wife Shari. Friends from Union and Bloomfield, N.J. and Alberta Canada were among the many guests. Their grandchildren Brooke, Shannon and Gabriel acted as hosts.
The couple was married June 17, 1945 in Clark, New Jersey. Mr. Feldman retired from Hughes Aircraft. Both Mr. and Mrs. Feldman are consultants in the family- owned business, Desert Engineering Group, Inc.
Nelson
50th Anniversary
Irene and Gordon E. Nelson, Jr. celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Officers Club. Family and friends gathered from across the United States for an evening of reminiscing highlighted by viewing a special narrated slide presentation.
The couple was married July 7, 1945 at the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Astoria, Oregon. Their children are Paul H. Nelson of Peoria, Ariz., Bruce A. Nelson of Corardo, Calif., and the late Gordon E. Nelson Jr. They have four grandchildren. Mr. Nelson is retired from the City of Tucson Police Department.
Pesqueira
50th Anniversary
Mercedes and Robert Pesqueira marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary at a celebration given by their children.
The Arizona natives were married May 30, 1945 in Nogales, Ariz. Their children are Bob (Della) of Fountain Valley, Calif.; and Fernando (Barbara), Sandy (Henry) and Ernie all of Tucson.
Their grandchildren are Bobby (Yanina), Chris, Patrick, Monica and Debra. They have one great-grandchild, Alyse.
Bushong
70th Anniversary
Lorene and Joseph Bushong celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary at dinner with friends at the Sabbar Shrine Temple.
The couple was married June 28, 1925 in Mendon, Ohio. They attended grade school together in a one-room schoolhouse near Mendon and attended high school together in Mendon.
The Bushongs have lived in Arizona for over 52 years. Mr. Bushong retired from Hughes Aircraft and Mrs. Bushong worked in the home as a homemaker. They say, “The 70 years of our marriage has passed by much too rapidly.’
Damewood
50th Anniversary
Jean and Lawrence “Dag’ Damewood celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a surprise dinner at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort given by their daughters Rebecca Wallace and Diane Damewood of Glendale. Their daughters also surprised them with airline tickets for an eight day trip to Alaska.
The couple, married June 29, 1945 in Roanoke, Va., retired in Oro Valley. Mr. Damewood is retired from the U.S. Air Force. They have two children, and one grandchild, Josh Wallace.
Dennis
50th Anniversary
Robert E. and Della Bunse Dennis celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with their children, their spouses and grandchildren at their Tucson home.
The couple was married June 24, 1945 at the First Methodist Church in Little Rock, Ark. by Rev. Aubrey Walton. Mrs. Dennis taught at Blenman Elementary School in the Tucson Unified School District, retiring in 1982. Mr. Dennis, who retired in 1984, was a professor of Plant Science at The University of Arizona.
Their children are Dorothy Carnevale of Cheshire, Conn., Robert Dennis, Jr. of Tucson, and Russell Dennis of Flagstaff. They have three grandchildren.
Locke
50th Anniversary
Vir-Jean and Richard Locke celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a one month trip through Tennessee, Illinois, Oklahoma and Texas visiting relatives and friends and researching family genealogy.
The couple was married May 11, 1945 in Tyrone, Okla. They have lived in Arizona nine-and-one-half years. Mr. Locke retired from Amoco Corp.
Their two daughters are Deborah Dreier of Huntington Beach, Calif. and Rhonda Wright of Anchorage, Alaska. They have three grandchildren.
Nielsen
50th Anniversary
Mary and Carl Nielson celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary by spending five days with their children, grandchildren and grandchild at Edelweiss Mountain lodging in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
The couple was married July 1, 1945 at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif. Mr. Nielsen retired from the air force after 24 years at a Lt. Colonel and owned and operated a Tucson Baskin Robbins Ice Cream store for many years.
Their children are Linda Gibbs, David Nielsen and Carol Perry.

100th Birthday
Bernice `Nana’ Elliott celebrated her one hundredth birthday on July 19, 1995.
Born in Ames, Iowa, Mrs. Elliott has lived in Denver for 70 years and is an avid Broncos fan.
She has been a Tucson winter resident for 22 years.
Her six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends honored her at a party on July 15.
