Maurer
50th Anniversary
Jennie and Glenn Maurer celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a family gathering at their home.
They are pictured on their wedding day, Sept. 18, 1944 in McKeesport, Pa., when Glenn was serving as a bomber pilot in World War II. Later he held many teaching and administrative positions with Sunnyside School district until his retirement.
They have two children, David Maurer of Overgaard and Robert Maurer of Tucson. They have four grandchildren.
Ohden
50th Anniversary
Pauline and Richard Ohden celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary May 9 during a 36-day Mediterranean Black Sea cruise. Their children hosted a family celebration in San Diego, July 28-31.
The Ohdens were married May 9, 1944 in Washington, Iowa. Richard is pastor emeritus of Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Tucson where he served 20 years as pastor before retiring in 1984.
Their son Harry and daughter-in-law Marlene live in Tucson and their son Marc and daughter-in-law Maite and granddaughter Stephanie live in New York.
Everhart
50th Anniversary
Arizona pioneers Lucille and Jack Everhart of Sonoita will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sept. 23 with family and friends in Sonoita.
They were married in Hot Springs, Ark. in 1944 where Jack was serving in the U.S. Army.
Lucille is the daughter of the late John Jay Lowe, former Santa Cruz County Sheriff and Nogales Chief of Police. She grew up in Nogales and graduated from Nogales High School and Arizona State University. She taught fourth grade at Elm Street School in Nogales from 1941-1944, until her married when she became a homemaker and mother.
Jack is the son of the late Cora Everhart, Santa Cruz County school superintendent and Charles Everhart, railroad engineer and rancher. He is an alumnus of Patagonia High School and the University of Arizona. He ran the family cattle ranch in Elgin-Sonoita, as well as working for the U.S. Park Service in Yellowstone Park, Wyo. and Big Bend National Park, Texas. He retired from civil service at Fort Huachuca.
They had six children: Sharon, John, Ellen, Michael, Ross and the late Judy Ann. They also have 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

60th Anniversary
Dorothy and Dale Alter celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary with a trip to Las Vegas, Nev.
They were married Sept. 15, 1934 in Glenwood, Iowa and have lived in Tucson for the last 10 years. Mrs. Alter was employed by Adams County in Colorado and Mr. Alter owned a Ben Franklin Store.
They have three children, listed here with their spouses: Robert and Karen Alter, Mary Jo and William Egan and Marti Alter. They have seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

40th Anniversary
Marion F. and Howard L. Richards celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary Sept. 11 by renewing their vows and exchanging ruby wedding rings in an out-of-town ceremony. This will be followed by a party Sept. 24 in Tucson.
They were married Sept. 11, 1954 in Arlington Heights, Ill. They had three sons: Howard L. Richards III of Petoskey, Mich., Antonio G. Richards of Tucson and the late Stephen Mark Richards. They have seven grandchildren.

45th Anniversary
Angeline Angie and William Bill Merodias celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary at a surprise party at the Bum Steer hosted by their children Cindy Merodias-Monteuegro, Harry Merodias and Karen DeCook and their granddaughter April. They have four grandchildren.
They were married June 19, 1949 in Gary, Ind. and have lived in Arizona since 1952 where Bill worked as a general contractor.
A member of the Optimist International Club since 1955, Bill founded the Old Pueblo Boys and Girls Club of Tucson.

40th Anniversary
Lillie and Lawrence Brown Sr. celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary with a surprise party at the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #2 hosted by their children.
They were married Oct. 9, 1954 in Houston, Texas and have lived in Arizona 26 years where Mrs. Brown is employed at Davis Monthan Air Force Base. Mr. Brown is retired.
They have 11 children: Shelia, Eric, Luther, Felicia, Mark, Lawrence Jr., Steven, Tyrone, Lucious, Larry and Genevieve.

Arizona natives Connie and Eduardo L. Perez celebrated their thirty-fourth wedding anniversary at a surprise party hosted by their three children Velma Christina, Mark Edward and Michael Angell of Tucson and sisters Carmen Camacho and Victoria Maish. It was held at Carmen s home.
They also have two grandsons, Robertino and Mychal Jacob.
They were married July 23, 1960 at St. Agustine s Cathedral by Father Floyd Stromberg.
Connie is self-employed and Eduardo is a retiree of Citizen Express Lines.

Dora and Roger Ballinger observed their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary with a week-long trip to Hawaii.
They were married Aug. 11, 1969 in Nogales, Ariz. and have lived in Arizona 18 years where Mrs. Ballinger is a homemaker and Mr. Ballinger is sales manager for Don Mackey G.M.C.
They have five children: Bertha Duarte, Roger Ballinger, Andy Ballinger, Margaret Ballinger and Elizabeth Ballinger, all of Tucson, and JorJe Ballinger of Flagstaff, and one grandchild, Jesse Duarte of Tucson.

Margaret and Daniel M. Walker will observe their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary tomorrow, Sept. 16. They were married in St. Louis, Mo. and have lived in Arizona 42 years. Mrs. Walker is retired and Mr. Walker is semi-retired.
They have one daughter, Cheryl S. Walker Richards of Tucson, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Janis and Tom Hodges celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary with a patio party/buffet at the home of Max and Marjorie Wilford hosted by the Hodges four children and their spouses: Tami and Ray Willey, Phil and Kelly Hodges, Scott and Shawn Hodges and Daniel and Carla Hodges. One hundred family members and friends attended, including most of the original wedding party.
Janis has lived in Arizona 47 years and Tom has lived here 42 years.
They have eight grandchildren.

Delia and Edward Milburg celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a dinner and reception at the Elks Lodge that included a live band, dancing and a 50-year overview.
They were married Sept. 10, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas and have lived in Arizona 20 years. They have six children: Edward Jr., John, Thomas, Barbara, George and Edith. They have 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Milburg is a retired nurse s aid and Mr. Milburg retired from the construction industry.

Edithmary and Gerald Tucker celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary with festivities that included attending Tucson Bible Chapel as a family and their children singing their father s favorite hymn.
The Tuckers were married Aug. 11, 1934 in Lansing, Mich. They have six children, 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Attending were their children and spouses Mary Olson, Carol and Chuck Conrad, Alice and Jim Tucker, Phil Tucker, Bruce Tucker and Peter and Ruth Byrne.

Alice and Robert Strosser will be celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a trip to Hawaii at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
They were married Sept. 22, 1944 in San Diego, Calif. Alice is a homemaker and Robert is a retired ironworker. They have three children: Robert Strosser Jr. of Medford, Ore., Kathleen Buchwald of Azusa, Calif. and Nancy Cremeans of Tucson. They have seven grandchildren.

Barbara and Henry Hayden celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with friends and family Sept. 3 at an open house hosted by their children at the home of Barbara and Henry Hayden. The Haydens are members of the First Evangelical Free Church.
The Haydens have three children, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Betty and Roy Stuehm will be celebrating their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary with a dinner hosted by their children, Carol, Danny, David and Marianne and Danny s fiance Linnea all of Tucson. Later in the week Barbara and Bob Stuehm, relatives from Illinois, will arrive for a visit.
They were married Oct. 3, 1959 in Tucson.
Betty is employed by Flowing Wells School District and Roy is self-employed.

Tucson High School sweethearts Diane and Ray Caviglia celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary with a family luncheon at the home of their daughter, Debbie. They have four children Ron, Gary and Debbie of Tucson and Cathy of Phoenix and six grandchildren.
They are pictured on their wedding day, Aug. 20, 1949. Diane is a retiree of Hughes Aircraft and Ray retired from the Arizona State Department of Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA).

Retirees Armida and John Oberg celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a banquet at La Fuente Restaurant Sept. 3 where mariachis entertained. A brunch was held the following day at the Obergs home.
They were married Sept. 3, 1944 in Bisbee and have lived in Tucson for the last 40 years.
They have two children: Larry Oberg of Tucson and Rosalie Hufnagel of Springfield, Va. They have four grandchildren.

40th Anniversary
Jo and Dolly Forren celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary with a week-long stay in the White Mountains near Show Low. They were married Sept. 2, 1954 in Broadlands, Ill. and have lived in Arizona 37 years.
Mrs. Forren retired from St. Mary s and Mr. Forren was employed by Ryan Field for 27 years.
They have four children: Jolee Valenzuela, Julie Gaines, Lisa Heintz and Janet Bruce, all of Tucson. They have 10 grandchildren.

La Vonne and Franklin Blix celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary by renewing their vows with family and friends followed by an anniversary celebration at the Victory Assembly of God Church. They were married Aug. 2, 1969 in Duluth, Minn. and have lived in Arizona 19 years.
Mr. Blix is a retiree and Mrs. Blix is employed by Tucson Medical Center. They have two daughters, Christy Blix and Colleen Thompson, of Tucson. They have one grandchild, Destinee Nicole Thompson.

Marie and Philip E. Mead celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary with an open house at the First Congregational Church.
Marie and Philip were married Sept. 11, 1934 in Portland, N.Y. by the Rev. Arden Miller, a life-long friend of the bride s father.
Marie is a retiree of the WCA Hospital in Jamestown, N.Y. and Philip retired from Jamestown City Bus Company.
They have two children: Philip E. Mead, Jr. of Jamestown, N.Y. and Connie Anderson of Tucson, who made the anniversary cake.

Maria Mercy and Manuel Joe Quihuis will celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary with a trip to Las Vegas, Nev. to visit Mercy s brother and sister-in-law.
Native Arizonans, they were married Sept. 27, 1969 in Tucson. They have three sons: Marc, Max and Matthew all of Tucson.
Mrs. Quihuis has been employed by First Interstate Bank 30 years and Mr. Quihuis has been employed by W. J. Hardy Concrete 11 years.

Lynn and Scott Laos celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary with a vacation to Disneyland and Universal Studios. They also held an anniversary party at their home with several friends and family.
They were married Aug. 10, 1984 in Tucson where they have lived 35 years. Mrs. Laos is employed by Northwest Hospital and Mr. Laos is employed by Pima County.
They have two children: 6-1/2-year-old Kyle and two-year old Kory.

Arizona natives Barbara and Donald Kennedy celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary with a family dinner party and a trip to the White Mountains for a romantic weekend at their cabin.
They were married Aug. 29, 1969 in Tucson. Don is a locomotive engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad. Barbara is a homemaker.
They have six children: Michelle of Las Vegas, Nev.; Lonnie, Mindy Brandee and Chad of Tucson; and Steve of San Diego, Calif. They also have two grandchildren and two on the way.

Carole and Richard Waina celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary with a family brunch at the Arizona Inn and a renewal of their wedding vows in the gardens. Carole s father, Chaplain Judson Segars, administered the vows again.
The Wainas were married Sept. 11, 1964 at the bride s homeplace in Hartsville, S.D.
Carole is a free-lance writer for religious publications and Richard is a scientist with Hughes Missile Systems.
They have two children, Laura and Philip.

50th Anniversary
Nelda and Bill Boyd will observe their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sept. 30 with a small celebration on their anniversary date followed by a cruise to the Bahamas later in the year.
Nelda retired in 1980 after 20 years employed through the Office and Professional Employees Union, Local #319. Bill retired in 1986 after 35 years with Don Mackey Oldsmobile.
They have five daughters: Lynn Thim, Sharon Morelli, Nancy Gagnon, Kaye Boyd and Debbie Dickey. They have six grandchildren.
Wilkerson
50th Anniversary
Claretta R. and Paul T. Wilkerson, Sr. were surprised with a cocktail and dinner party at Tanque Verde Guest Ranch hosted by their children to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The 75 guests included grandchildren and great-grandchildren and other family members and friends from Maryland, Georgia, Texas, Washington and California.
They have five children: Paul T. Wilkerson, Jr. and Lynda Fairfield of Pinetop, C. Sue Molera of Tucson, S. Lillee Smouse of Fallbrook, Calif. and James Wilkerson of Lake Arrowhead, Calif. They have six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Their children also provided the Wilkersons with a two-night stay at the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch.
Claretta retired from the University of California-Irvine and Paul retired from the FAA in Orange County, Calif.
They were married July 2, 1944 in Tucson and have lived in Arizona since their retirement eight years ago.
Their daughter Sue says her parents were truly surprised and had no idea that so many friends would travel so far to help them celebrate this very special time.

Joyce and Timothy La Porte celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary with a weekend at Westward Look Resort.
They were married Aug. 18, 1984 in Portola Valley, Calif. and have lived in Arizona nine years.
Mrs. LaPorte is employed by the Tucson Airport Authority and Mr. LaPorte is employed by Drexel Heights Fire Department.
