58th Anniversary
June and Sylvester J. Root, Sr. celebrated their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary at a dinner at El Corral with their daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Robert White, and grandchildren, Jennifer and Bobby.
They were married Aug. 1, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio. June is a homemaker and Sylvester is a Hughes Aircraft retiree.
They have three children: Sylvester Root Jr. and Sylvia White of Tucson and Philip Root of Anchorage, Alaska. They have seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Allen
50th Anniversary
Beverlee and Paul Allen celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania at a week-long family reunion. They were married Aug. 5, 1944 in Moorestown, N.J. Both served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Beverlee served with the Army Nurse Corps in the Phillipines and Japan. Paul served with the 97th Infantry Division in Europe and Japan.
They have lived in Arizona eight years. Beverlee retired as a nursing supervisor at Delaware State Hospital and Paul retired as personnel manager of the DuPont Company.
They have three sons: Jay, Dean and Brian. They have six grandchildren.
Van Curan
50th Anniversary
Margaret and William A. Van Curan celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Milagros Van Curan.
Margaret is a homemaker and William is a retired truck driver and Sahuarita school bus driver.
They have seven children: Diane Charnock, Barbara Browning, William R. Van Curan, John Van Curan, Norma Welch, Kathleen Becker and Richard Van Curan. They have 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Remus
50th Anniversary
Edith and Charles Remus celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a reception at Craycroft Baptist Church hosted by their children and grandchildren.
They were married Aug. 5, 1944 in Forest Park, Ill. and moved to Tucson in September that same year. Edith is a homemaker and Charles is a retiree of the City of Tucson.
They have four children: Judith and John of Tucson, Carl of Broken Arrow, Okla. and William of Chandler. They have seven grandchildren.
Roseberry
60th Anniversary
Edna and Darwin Roseberry celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary with a family gathering at their home. They were married Aug. 6, 1934 in Atlantic, Iowa and have lived in Arizona 14 years.
They are retired from farming in Iowa. They have three children: Darwin N. Roseberry of Sellersville, Pa.; Thomas D. Roseberry of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Douglas L. Roseberry of Fort Collins, Colo. They have nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Amspaugh
50th Anniversary
June and William Amspaugh celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with an open house June 5 at St. James Lutheran Church in Marion, Ind. Five generations were present from the bridegroom s aunt from Florida to the great-grandchildren.
The Amspaughs were married Aug. 13, 1944 in Fort Wayne, Ind. and have lived in Arizona 10 years. June is a homemaker and William is a retired accountant of RCA in Marion, Ind.
They have three daughters, Cindy Roberts of Marion, Ind., Connie Amspaugh of Tucson and Sara Wire of Indianapolis, Ind., two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dickerson
50th Anniversary
Barbara and Walter Dickerson are celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary Aug. 27 with an open house at Christ Presbyterian Church. It will be hosted by their children and their spouses: Brian and Diane Dickerson from California; Deb and Mike Redding from Chandler; and Bruce and Fatima Dickerson, Gail and Dale Marthaler and Carol and Matt Baranowski all of Tucson. They also have six grandchildren.
The Dickersons were married in an historic United Presbyterian Church in Southfield, Mich. Aug. 24, 1944. Walter, then serving in the U.S. Navy, was home on leave from the South Pacific.
He worked 23 years as an installer and writer for Michigan Bell Telephone Company before he and Barbara moved to Tucson 31 years ago. He then was in the printing business 14 years before retiring. Barbara works for the City of Tucson, Planning Department.
Attending the celebration from out of town will be Barbara s two brothers and their wives and her sister from Michigan, her sister from Washington and her bridesmaid and lifelong friend, Barbara Reaser, from Illinois.
Reinhard
50th Anniversary
Betty and Lee Reinhard celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a party hosted by their children and spouses: David and Cherie Reinhard, Michael and Betsy Reinhard and Bonnie and Bob Henry.
Guests included grandchildren Laura and Jim Jones, Robert and Koren Henry, Brook and Holly Reinhard and great-grandchildren Ashley, Andy and Aaron Jones and Marleah Henry.
Betty and Lee were married June 17, 1944 in Tucson. Lee is a retired electrician of IBEW #570 and Betty is a retiree of TUSD.
Maness
60th Anniversary
Mattie Arlevie McCain and Albert Jack Maness celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary Aug. 14 at Archer Center with family friends. They were married Aug. 12, 1934 in Talledega, Ala.
Mattie retired from the real estate business and Albert is a retired contractor.
They have four children, listed here with their spouses: Roger and Diana Maness, Gail and Marshall Padgett, Ron and Kay Maness and Theresa Maness. They have nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mabarak
50th Anniversary
Virginia and Shaffer Mabarak celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with friends and family at the home of their daughter, Linda Richmond.
They were married Aug. 20, 1944 in Yuma. Virginia was employed by Mountain Bell and Shaffer owned several bars including the State Lounge and the Grant Road Tavern.
They have three children: Debbie Nielsen and Linda Richmond of Tucson and John Mabarak of Kayenta. They have six grandchildren.
Clorus
50th Anniversary
Magdalen and John Clorus will celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at Queen of Peace Church in Darien, Ill. with a reception in LaGrange, Ill.
They were married Aug. 26, 1944 in Chicago, Ill. Magdalen is a retiree of the U.S. Civil Service Commission. John is a retiree of Standard Federal Savings and Loan Association in Chicago.
They have three children, John Clorus, Jr., Nancy Kleinschmidt and Joan Steinmann, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Islas
60th Anniversary
Elisa V. and Rodolfo B. Islas celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary at home with family and friends.
They were married Aug. 15, 1934 in Nogales, Ariz. Mrs. Islas is a retiree of Van Camp SeaFood Company and Mr. Islas retired from the Long Beach Naval Shipyard.
They had two children, Rodolfo Islas Jr. and the late Olga Yolanda. They have one grandchild.
